Olen Minna Rahnasto-Rilla, Itä-Suomen yliopiston uunituore tietoasiantuntija. Noin pari kuukautta sitten minulle avautui mahdollisuus työskennellä aineistonhallinnan parissa Itä-Suomen yliopiston kirjastolla. Datanhallinnan palvelua halutaan kehittää tutkijalähtöisesti ja minulla on kokemusta tutkimustyöstä yli 20 vuotta Itä-Suomen/Kuopion yliopistossa. Koulutukseltani olen farmasian tohtori vuosimallia 2009, proviisori ja filosofian maisteri pääaineena biokemia. Urallani olen tehnyt tutkimustyötä lääkekehityksen parissa ja opettanut farmasian laitoksella. Kiinnostus terveyteen liittyvään tutkimustyöhön vei minut pariksi vuodeksi National Institutes of Health -lääketutkimuskeskukseen Yhdysvaltoihin tutkimaan vanhuusiän sairauksiin vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Viime vuosina olen tutkinut luonnon- ja muiden aineiden vaikutuksia rintasyöpään.

Uudessa työssäni olen jo päässyt kurkistamaan tutkimusaineistojen hallinnan kysymyksiin ja auttamaan tutkijoita aineistonhallinnansuunnitelmien tekemisessä. Mahtavaa onkin työskennellä edelleen tutkimustyön parissa, vaikkakin eri näkökannalta. Vapaa-aikani kuluu musiikkia kuunnellen, lenkkeilyn merkeissä tai lyhyillä vaellusreissuilla. Välillä unohdan itseni puutarhatöiden pariin.

I’m Minna Rahnasto-Rilla, a fresh information specialist at the University of Eastern Finland. A couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to start working on the data support services at the University of Eastern Finland Library. With an emphasis on developing the data support services from the perspective of the researcher, and I have experience with research work more than 20 years at the University of Eastern Finland/Kuopio. My academic background is in pharmacy and biochemistry, I got my PhD in pharmacy in 2009. In my career, I have done research work on drug development as well as teaching work at the Department of Pharmacy. My interest in health research led me to the National Institutes of Health, the USA to do research work on age-related disease for two years. In recent years, I have studied the effects of natural and other compounds on breast cancer.

At my new job, I have already got to know the data support services and helped researchers to carry out their data management plans. I am grateful that I can continue working with the research work, but now I can see it from a different aspect. During my spare time, I like jogging and hiking, working in the garden and listening to the music.

Tuoreimman tietoasiantuntijan tervehdys | Greetings from the most recent information specialist

Lisäksi olen aloitellut vanhan rakkaan lentopalloharrastuksen taustajoukoissa toimimista.

Työn touhussa Melaniassa | At work in Melania

My name is Helena Jäntti and I started working as an information specialist at the UEF Library in August 2021. My main task is library’s research support, but I am also responsible for student supervision and teaching. My background is in limnology and I have done my BSc in the United States, MSc at University of Jyväskylä, and PhD at University of Helsinki. My PhD work focused on nutrient cycling in the Baltic Sea but since I started my postdoc project at University of Eastern Finland in 2015, I have also investigated the effects of climate change on lake biogeochemistry. In the past few years I have worked at UEF research services and as a coordinator for the UEF water project. Who would have thought that a limnologist ends up as a librarian – but that’s how diverse our career paths are at the library.

I am a returning migrant to Kuopio. After completing high school, I have lived in the United States, in Jyväskylä and Helsinki area. Family and excellent possibilities for outdoor life draw us back in to the heart of Finnish Lakeland. In my spare time, I like to bike and hike outdoors and spend time on a lake, either by boat or on a SUP board. In an addition, I have started as background force in my beloved old volleyball hobby.

Kirjaston tutkimuksen tuki sai uutta työvoimaa vuoden 2019 tammikuussa, kun Marja Kuittinen aloitti tietoasiantuntijana Joensuun kampuksella. Siilinjärvellä syntyneellä Marjalla on tietojenkäsittelytieteen ”koulutuskakku”, jonka pohjana on v. 1989 suoritettu FM-tutkinto (Kuopion yliopisto), täytteenä v. 1993 FL-tutkinto (Kuopion yliopisto) ja kuorrutteena FT-tutkinto v. 1997 (Joensuun yliopisto). Kirsikkana kakun päällä on dosentuuri vuodelta 2005 (Joensuun yliopisto) alana kognitiiviset menetelmät tietojenkäsittelyn opetuksessa.

Library’s research support received an addition to the workforce in January 2019, when Marja Kuittinen started working as an information specialist at the Joensuu Campus. Marja, born in Siilinjärvi, has baked an “education cake” in computer science. The base layer of the “cake” is a MSc degree (University of Kuopio 1989), topped up with a Licentiate in Philosophy degree (University of Kuopio 1993) and as the icing on the cake is a PhD degree (University of Joensuu 1997) and a docentship on cognitive methods in computer science education (University of Joensuu 2005).

Marja has been working at the University of Eastern Finland and its predecessors since 1989. She has gained extensive work experience in the management of various positions from amanuensis to professorship at the School of Computing but particularly in the post of a university lecturer responsible for the education of Computer Science subject teachers since 1998. Marja’s research is heavily focused on teaching, especially on educational technology, computer-assisted instruction and programming education.

As an Information Specialist, Marja’s tasks are strongly related to the above-mentioned research support, with an emphasis on bibliometric services provided by the university to its researchers. Areas of responsibility also include open science, such as open publishing and teaching at postgraduate courses offered by the library. In her spare time, Marja is engaged in reading and crafts as well as outdoor activities in search of containers hidden by other people (read: geocaching).
