591 250 €

(Please, scroll down to read in English.)

  • Tutkimuskirjat, painetut 28 %
  • Kurssikirjat, sähköiset 12 %
  • Kurssikirjat, painetut 22 %

Such material – which could also be classified as databases or online portals – is included in the Faculty of Health Sciences’ figures in particular.

A total of EUR 343,758 was spent on printed books and e-books purchased to permanently add to collections. Of these, research books accounted for 65% while course books accounted for 35%.

The distribution of permanent purchases by faculty:

  • Research books: Philosophical Faculty 35%, Faculty of Science and Forestry 9%, Faculty of Health Sciences 4%, Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies 51%, multidisciplinary 2%
  • Course books: Philosophical Faculty 36%, Faculty of Science and Forestry 4%, Faculty of Health Sciences 28%, Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies 32%

  • Research books, electronic 37%
  • Research books, printed 28%
  • Course books, electronic 12%
  • Course books, printed 22%
  • Indeterminate electronic 1%

It should be noted that course literature is also included in the material acquired as annual subscriptions. This type of material cannot be separated into research books and course books in the same ways as permanently purchased books.

Uusi vuosi – tervetuloa Alma! | New Year – Welcome Alma!

(Please, scroll down to read in English.)

Uusi vuosikymmen käynnistyi Itä-Suomen yliopiston kirjastossa uuden kirjastojärjestelmä Alman käyttöönotolla. Alma on nykyaikainen kirjastojärjestelmä, jota käytetään yli tuhannessa kirjastossa maailmanlaajuisesti.

E-kirjojen kokoelma taas kasvoi vuoden aikana noin 35 000 nimekkeen verran.

Tietopalveluneuvoja Elli Piirainen luetteloi Oikeus tietoon -kirjan uuteen Alma-kirjastojärjestelmään heti alkuvuodesta 2020. Information services advisor Elli Piirainen catalogued the book Oikeus tietoon to the new library system Alma in January 2020.
Tietopalveluneuvoja Elli Piirainen luetteloi Oikeus tietoon -kirjan uuteen Alma-kirjastojärjestelmään heti alkuvuodesta 2020. | Information services advisor Elli Piirainen catalogued the book Oikeus tietoon to the new library system Alma in January 2020.

The new decade started in the University of Eastern Finland Library with a new library system called Alma. Alma is a modern system that is used in over a thousand libraries around the world. The system change affected all the processes in the library from acquisitions to subject indexing, classification and cataloguing, i.e. the process cycle which every book, printed or electrical, goes through before it can be used by the library customers. The library staff received a modern library system that replaced the old one which had been in use over 20 years. To the customers, the system change meant a change from the UEF Finna to the UEF Primo.

The first printed book was catalogued to Alma soon after the turn of the year. The book was Oikeus tietoon – informaatio-oikeuden perusteet (the principles of information law) from 2019. Altogether 29 copies of the book were catalogued and brought to the customers’ use. E-version of the book was made available to the customers already in mid-December 2019. By mid-January the printed book had been borrowed 27 times.

According to the preliminary information, altogether 6,200 items of printed books were catalogued to the UEF Library’s collection in 2019. The number of electronic titles available grew approximately by 35,000 titles.  In addition to the printed books, you can also find all the electronic books in the library’s collections from the UEF Primo. You are warmly welcome to search and find information from the UEF Primo and from our campus libraries!

Miten löydän kirjaston uudet aineistot UEF-Finnasta? | How to find library’s new material in UEF Finna?

(Please, scroll down to read in English.)

Itä-Suomen yliopiston kirjastossa on tällä hetkellä yli miljoona kirjaa, ja uutta aineistoa hankitaan jatkuvasti.

Miten löytää uusimmat kirjastoon hankitut nimekkeet miljoonan kirjan joukosta? Yksi keino on etsiä niitä Uutta UEF-Finnassa -listalta.

UEF Library has over a million books at the moment. New material is purchased all the time. How to find the newest books among the million books?

One way is to use the New material list. You will find the New material list from UEF Finna’s front page.

On the New material list you will find the print books and e-books that have come to the UEF Library during the last month. There is also information on books that only have the order information available.

For example:

or

If you want to make a reservation on a book that is coming to the library, please contact the library’s customer service or send an e-mail to acquisitions[at]uef.fi. Reservations can be made only on books that are going to be borrowable material at the campus libraries or the KUH Medical Library.

If the book that you are looking for has not been ordered to the library yet, you can make an acquisition request for it through this form. With the same form,  you can also reserve the book you have requested or request a notification when the electronic resource is accessible.

In case you wish that the library purchases books on a specific topic, but you don’t know the exact titles of the applicable publications, you can make an acquisition request through this form.

All the books that you find in the New material list have not necessarily been published recently. The library also acquires books that have been published some time ago. You can see the most recently published books of the New material list when you sort the list in the year (newest first) order.

You can also see what new material has come to the UEF Library, for example, during the last week or what new material has been acquired to the Kuopio Campus Library or in the field of history by selecting the appropriate narrow search options on the right-hand side of the page.

If you want to find out whether among the new material there is something of interest to you, you can narrow the list’s content also by typing search words to the search field.
