2. Module: Discipline-specific information retrieval
In this module you will
- Familiarize yourself with the most important scholarly databases in your discipline.
- Learn how to conduct systematic information searches in your discipline.
- Learn how to set up current information alerting.
This module is 100% self-studying.
To complete this module:
- Ensure that the basic techniques explained in Module 1 are familiar to you.
- Go through the study material of this module (see below)
- Do the module assignment in UEF Moodle (opens in new window).
Read the pages:
- Databases: general overview – this is essential, since the other database pages use this as a reference
- UEF Primo, library’s search service
- Multidisciplinary databases – these are usable to all or even necessary to some fields of science, but the information is not repeated on discipline specific pages
- Search strategy formulation
- Alerts and new information
Select at least one discipline specific sub-page:
- Databases of education, psychology & logopedics,
- Databases of humanities and theology,
- Databases of health sciences,
- Databases of science and engineering,
- Databases of social sciences
According to your research method and field of study, read also these, if needed:
