For us, water and forest belong together.

Most of our drinking water comes from forests, and forests play an important role in the regulation of aquatic ecosystems. In this summer school, we want to learn more about that jointly. The school focuses on students who have some experience in ecology, forestry or hydrology. You can be an advanced BSc, an MSc or PhD student.

In this summer school, we aim to combine fun, fieldwork, labs, lecture halls, and computing to understand how climate change, forests, and humans interact. We will focus on Finland and Latin America (and a little bit of other regions as well) and select a group of high-level teachers from around the world.

What you can learn:
Forests and their role in water
Climate and the hydrological cycles
Field work
Hydrology of tracers
Carbon balances of headwatersheds
Ecosystem services, their valuation and their management.

What will you do:
Field work
Lab work
Lectures
Calculate on computers
Have fun

Teachers are:
Frank Berninger (University of Eastern Finland)
