Piloting Social Network Analysis at UEF

As part of the ISILA project, the University of Eastern Finland piloted the Social Network Analysis (SNA) course with the aim of exploring how learning analytics can enhance student engagement and support.

The pilot looked at how early signals from course activity and surveys could help identify students who might be struggling with participation, assignments, or study-related stress. Using these insights, tailored interventions were introduced in the early weeks of the course to provide encouragement, guidance, and practical support.

The responses varied: some students quickly adapted and benefited from the interventions, while others continued to face challenges requiring more sustained assistance. Nevertheless, the pilot confirmed the value of proactive engagement, highlighting how data-informed teaching can make learning experiences more supportive and effective.
