Announcing New Book: Advanced Learning Analytics Methods: AI, Precision and Complexity
We are delighted to announce the release of a new open-access book edited by ISILA members Mohammed Saqr and Sonsoles López Pernas, titled Advanced Learning Analytics Methods: AI, Precision and Complexity.
This new publication brings together the most recent advances in learning analytics, spanning from Explainable AI (XAI) and Generative AI (GenAI) to complex systems and precision education. Across 22 in-depth chapters, the book combines rigorous research with practical insights, tutorials, and datasets to help readers explore the next frontier of data-informed education.

The book presents its themes in an accessible and structured format, beginning with introductory chapters that cover the fundamentals of each topic, followed by hands-on tutorials featuring real code and datasets.
Although titled “Advanced Learning Analytics,” the content is crafted for the broader educational research community, appealing to both newcomers and experienced researchers interested in data-driven educational methods.
- The first section focuses on Explainable AI (XAI) and Machine Learning (ML), introducing key concepts, their applications, and detailed tutorials.
 - The second section explores Large Language Models (LLMs), their educational potential, and how to apply them in analytical contexts.
 - The third section dives into complex systems, with special attention to Transition Network Analysis (TNA) — a method for modeling the temporal unfolding of learning processes.
 - The final section examines precision education, emphasizing person-centered and idiographic (individual-specific) analytical methodologies.
