UiB Piloting – Fantastic Data Course
At the University of Bergen, Fantastic Data Course (DIGI110) was piloted as part of the ISILA project. This course is fully online and introduces students to the role of data and digitalization in society, encouraging critical reflection on technology’s impact.
The pilot tested how learning analytics can support teaching and course design. Dashboards were used to track participation, quizzes, and self-regulated learning surveys. While no individual interventions were possible with the anonymisation applied, the insights still revealed important trends, such as strong time management but a low sense of belonging among students in this fully online setting.
These findings will guide redesign efforts: improving opportunities for peer interaction, rethinking survey integration, and exploring more effective ways of motivating students to engage with the course materials. The pilot highlighted both opportunities and challenges in using data-driven approaches, offering valuable lessons for building more engaging and sustainable online learning in the future.
