Its main features are shown below. Also many <strong>Proquest<\/strong> collections and databases are relevant to educational sciences. The main features of Proquest have also been introduced below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The multidisciplinary <a href=\"https:\/\/primo.uef.fi\/permalink\/358FIN_UOEF\/mhajq\/alma9911700183705966\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scopus<\/a> (link opens in a new tab) is useful to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, there are some other important databases for educational sciences in particular. Read more about these specific databases under the discipline-specific sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To see the whole list of resources available, please visit the library&#8217;s web page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uef.fi\/en\/library\/information-retrieval-and-training#paragraph-20253\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Information retrieval and training \u2013 Information resources by discipline<\/a> (link opens in new tab).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EBSCO platform for databases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>EBSCO maintains one generic database of its own: the <strong>Academic Search Premier.<\/strong> It is a multidisciplinary database, but especially useful in educational sciences, in particular when your topic features a multidisciplinary approach. Additionally, two other educational databases are introduced here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ERIC database is the major source not only in educational science but also in the pedagogy of specific subjects, like biology, history, etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>ERIC \/ Proquest<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>covers the years<\/strong>: Core collection is indexed from 1966 to present. Includes some material from 1907 onwards.<\/li>\n<li><strong>covers the document types<\/strong>: Journal articles, research reports, conference papers, dissertations, books, grey literature, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>uses the thesaurus<\/strong>: ERIC Thesaurus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/primo.uef.fi\/permalink\/358FIN_UOEF\/mhajq\/alma9911698553705966&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Open ERIC in a new tab in UEF Primo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>ERIC (the Education Resources Information Center) is the largest and most essential source of educational literature. It is used through the ProQuest platform. The ERIC database is a comprehensive international reference database in education research. ERIC only indexes material that is in English.<\/p>\n<p>The database encompasses 1,248 journals and 727 non-journal sources. It contains over 1,800,000 total records; 48,000 are added annually. Almost 25 % of the records are included in full-text (<a href=\"https:\/\/eric.ed.gov\/pdf\/ERIC_Collection_Snapshot.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ERIC Collection Snapshot<\/a>, January 2021. The most records, however, are linked in full-text in other UEF Primo services.<\/p>\n<p>The ERIC Thesaurus is an authoritative education-related\u00a0<strong>thesaurus<\/strong>. Please note that new terms may be included quite slowly, and the thesaurus description of an educational system is mostly based on the U.S. school system.<\/p>\n<p>ERIC is administered by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) at the U.S. Department of Education. They also offer a free website eric.ed.gov. Many journal titles are indexed in the ERIC database. Education Database coverage spans the literature on all levels of education.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond scholarly journals, Education database indexes magazines, newspapers and non-journal materials. The user may benefit from the wide-ranging collection in full-text. It is genuinely multicultural with 30 languages represented in the contents. The database provides access to more than 4,600 full text journals and magazines, including 3,870 peer-reviewed journals. Total number of journals and magazines indexed and abstracted is 18,400, of which 16,320 are peer-reviewed (2022).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebsco.com\/products\/research-databases\/academic-search-premier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to EBSCO\u2019s home page<\/a>\u00a0(link opens in a new tab), this database also provides access to over 5,000 open access (OA) journals, which are presented as referrals for DOAJ.<\/p>\n<p>The language of the user interface can be changed even to Finnish, but English should be kept as the search language.<\/p>\n<p>See the technical details and video tutorials of EBSCO databases on the top of the page.<\/p>\n<h4>LearnTechLib\u00a0(The learning and technology library)<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>covers the years<\/strong>: from 1990s to present<\/li>\n<li><strong>covers the document types<\/strong>: journal articles, dissertations, conference papers, e-books, multimedia content<\/li>\n<li><strong>uses the thesaurus<\/strong>: no thesaurus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Open the database in a new tab in UEF Primo:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/primo.uef.fi\/permalink\/358FIN_UOEF\/1jnohnf\/alma9911698063705966&amp;lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LearnTechLib<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LearnTechLib is a database specialized in learning technology. The learning and technology library is a non-profit international organization and resource for peer-reviewed research on the latest developments and applications. It has filtered databases like ERIC with results in the fields of learning and technology.<\/p>\n<p>The database provides more than 135,000 full-text documents and abstracts from over 2,000 journals and conference papers.<\/p>\n<p>The strength of this database is the focused content as well as the abundant content in academic non-journal publications: there are over 14,000 dissertations, 40,000 conference papers from 800 different proceedings publications, as well as other presentations.<\/p>\n<p>LearnTechLib has no thesaurus, which is one significant disadvantage. The user interface is relatively modest, giving no sophisticated search possibilities. Subjects include, among other things, ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, metalsmithing, fashion and clothing, textiles, furniture, interior design, product design, architecture, advertising and industrial design.<\/p>\n<p>Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI) is a source of abstracts and bibliographic records for articles, news items and reviews published in design and applied arts periodicals. DAAI contains more than 212,000 records from over 500 scholarly and 100 other publications. Around 1,200 new records are added monthly.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: left\">Agricultural &amp; environmental science collection \/ ProQuest<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>covers the years<\/strong>: 1960 \u2013 present. Some historical material included.<\/li>\n<li><strong>covers the document types<\/strong>: Journal articles, dissertations, books and conference papers<\/li>\n<li><strong>uses the thesaurus<\/strong>: Several thesauri are available<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Open the database in a new tab in UEF Primo:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/primo.uef.fi\/permalink\/358FIN_UOEF\/mhajq\/alma9913576173705966\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agricultural &amp; environmental science collection<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This database collection can be interesting in relation to<strong>\u00a0home economics<\/strong>. It includes agricultural and environmental science collections. Subjects of interest for home economics are, for example, agricultural economics, environmental education, food and nutrition, public health and waste management.<\/p>\n<p>The database has 4,487 publications, of which 3,415 are peer-reviewed scholarly journals, published not only in English (May 2022).<\/p>\n<p>Depending on your topic, you may find other suitable databases in home economics. Academic Search Premier, Scopus and Web of Science are comprehensive high-quality multidiscipline databases. PubMed offers citations in medicine, health sciences and related disciplines.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion accordion-js\">\n\t\t\t\t<button class=\"accordion__button\" aria-controls=\"content-4510\" aria-expanded=\"false\" id=\"accordion-control-4510\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"accordion__heading\" >\n\t\t\t\t\t\tLogopedics\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<\/button>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"accordion__content\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-control-4510\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"content-4510\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>There is no specific database for logopedics. It has a long history starting from a printed bibliography publication called Psychological Abstracts in 1927. PsycInfo is provided by the American Psychological Association.<\/p>\n<p>PsycInfo contains over 5.1 million records from 3,000 journals and other publications (2022).<\/p>\n<p>PsycInfo\u2019s strong point is the coverage of almost 30 languages and thus the geographical extent. The thesaurus terms, selected by professionals, are included in most of the records. They provide many possibilities to limit the results not only by the subject, but also by the age, gender and population of the research subjects as well as the methodology or even the tests used.<\/p>\n<p>PsycInfo\u2019s weakness is that despite the rigorous indexing of subjects and methods available, you cannot rely on the fact that every record would contain all the aspects of indexing. This must be kept in mind especially when doing a systematic review.<\/p>\n<p>PsycInfo contains also references full text articles from over 100 journals by APA.
