Kirjaston avoimen tieteen eteen tekem\u00e4 ty\u00f6 on yht\u00e4 i\u00e4k\u00e4st\u00e4 kuin kirjastojen olemassaolo. Kirjastojen ydinteht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 on aina ollut jakaa ja j\u00e4rjestell\u00e4 tietoa niin, ett\u00e4 sen uudelleenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6 ja hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4minen on ollut mahdollisimman helppoa. Mik\u00e4\u00e4n t\u00e4ss\u00e4 l\u00e4ht\u00f6ajatuksessa ei ole uutta. Kentt\u00e4 ymp\u00e4rill\u00e4 on vain mutkistunut ja edelleen muuttuva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nykyajan s\u00e4hk\u00f6inen ja samalla mahdollisimman avoin saavutettavuus on ensisijaisen t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 eritoten tilanteessa, jossa kehittyv\u00e4tkin maat rakentavat kiihtyv\u00e4ll\u00e4 tahdilla infrastruktuuriymp\u00e4rist\u00f6j\u00e4\u00e4n, mutta monessa tapauksessa huomattavasti rajallisemmin resurssein kuin mihin me kehittyneiss\u00e4 maissa olemme tottuneet. Kustantajien jatkuvasti nousevat tilausmaksut eiv\u00e4t helpota kehittyvien maiden aineistonhankintaa. Rahalla ostettava avoimuus t\u00e4t\u00e4 n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmaa ajatellen ei ole en\u00e4\u00e4 eettisesti kest\u00e4v\u00e4 ratkaisu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirjaston perusteht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 on auttaa ja tukea tutkimusty\u00f6t\u00e4, jolla toivottavasti voidaan muuttaa asenteita, murtaa ennakkoluuloja, sek\u00e4 muokata maailmasta nykyist\u00e4 parempaa paikkaa. Tieteellisten kirjastojen vastuu avoimen tieteen palvelujen tarjoajana on kehittynyt viime vuosina merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti, esimerkkin\u00e4 t\u00e4st\u00e4 on rinnakkaistallennuspalveluiden vakiintuminen useissa suomalaisissa korkeakouluissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u00e4-Suomen yliopiston kirjasto avustaa tieteentekij\u00f6it\u00e4 sek\u00e4 muita tiedeyhteis\u00f6n parissa toimivia tahoja. Heti opintojensa alussa uusi opiskelija saa kirjastosta opastusta aineiston l\u00f6yt\u00e4miseen<\/a>. Pikkuhiljaa h\u00e4n l\u00e4htee j\u00e4rkeist\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n pala palalta oman tieteenalansa konventioita. H\u00e4n kenties kyseenalaistaa tiedonhaun kurssilla<\/a> entisi\u00e4 tiedonhaun ja -hallinnan taitojaan samalla, kun h\u00e4n muodostaa omaa ensimm\u00e4ist\u00e4 isompaa tutkielmaansa. H\u00e4n oppii kahlaamaan tietokantojen viidakossa ja hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n my\u00f6s kansainv\u00e4lisi\u00e4 artikkeleita oman tutkielmansa pohjaksi. Kirjasto muistuttaa opiskelijaa opinn\u00e4ytety\u00f6vaiheessa avaamaan lopputy\u00f6ns\u00e4 suuren yleis\u00f6n saataville, ja avoimuudesta kiinnostuneille jatko-opiskelijoille on tarjolla luotettavaa ohjausta muun muassa aineistonhallintasuunnitelman tekoon sek\u00e4 syvemp\u00e4\u00e4 tiedonhaun ohjausta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jatko-opinnot huipentuvat useimmiten v\u00e4it\u00f6skirjan laatimiseen ja v\u00e4it\u00f6stilaisuuteen. Yliopistolla on t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 nelj\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4julkaisusarjaa, joissa v\u00e4it\u00f6skirjat julkaistaan<\/a> tiedekunnittain. Kirjaston tuki ei t\u00e4ss\u00e4 kohtaa ole vain teknist\u00e4 teoksen verkkoon saattamista, vaan usein kirjaston asiantuntijat selvitt\u00e4v\u00e4t julkaisusopimusten koukeroita ja kustantajien tahtotiloja tiedon levitykseen yhdess\u00e4 julkaisusarjojen toimittajien kanssa. Samalla kaavalla tiedot tarkistetaan, kun tutkimusartikkeleita rinnakkaistallennetaan kohta kolmevuotissyntym\u00e4p\u00e4ivi\u00e4\u00e4n viett\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n UEF eRepository<\/a> -julkaisuarkistoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julkaisun valmistumisen my\u00f6t\u00e4 sen tiedot on my\u00f6s ker\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4, tallennettava ja raportoitava opetus- ja kulttuuriministeri\u00f6lle. T\u00e4m\u00e4 toteutetaan kirjaston palveluna<\/a> yliopistossamme, vaikka tekij\u00e4 itse julkaisutietojen oikeellisuudesta vastaakin. UEF asiointipalvelun palvelulomake on avattu tutkijoille jo vuonna 2015, ja j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4- sek\u00e4 sis\u00e4ll\u00f6llist\u00e4 neuvontaa on saatavilla my\u00f6s palvelus\u00e4hk\u00f6postiosoitteen kautta. Kirjasto tarkistaa jokaisen julkaisun tiedot ennen kev\u00e4\u00e4n lopullista yliopiston rahoitukseen vaikuttavaa tietojen l\u00e4hetyst\u00e4 OKM:lle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaikki t\u00e4m\u00e4 taustatoiminta t\u00e4ht\u00e4\u00e4 tiedon avoimeen saatavuuteen, ja vaikka toisinaan avoimuuteen kannustaminen on kuin taistelisi tuulimyllyj\u00e4 vastaan, silti jokainen ponnistus kannattaa. Peli\u00e4 valemediaa tai h\u00f6tt\u00f6sis\u00e4lt\u00f6j\u00e4 vastaan ei ole viel\u00e4 menetetty. Avoin toimintakulttuuri ja avoin tiede eiv\u00e4t ole mit\u00e4\u00e4n ylevi\u00e4 sanapareja, vaan sis\u00e4lt\u00e4v\u00e4t ajatuksen aktiivisesta toimimisesta my\u00f6s arkip\u00e4iv\u00e4n tasolla sen eteen, mill\u00e4 todella on merkityst\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge, science and publications<\/bdo><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The concept of open science is not new, neither is the fact that libraries have always had an important role in making scientific publications available for those who need them. What has changed though, is the surrounding world, tools and the whole scientific \u201ceco-system\u201d and the expectations of what open science actually mean. Modern tools like the internet, gives us the possibility to disseminate scientific publications all over the world. With this possibility comes the responsibility to act, to provide information for those who need it \u2013 like we always have.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

University libraries in Finland are nowadays responsible for various aspects of supporting open science. Self-archiving is an example of a service, which has grown from the margins to a common and a permanent library service within the recent years.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Eastern Finland Library has a lot to offer to researchers and students. Courses in information skills<\/a> to get everyone started, vast collections to support researching and studying, and finally something to help everyone with the final step of their current scientific journey: publishing<\/a>. Whether it is a masters\u2019 thesis, a doctoral dissertation or a scientific article, we have the services that can help you find the most open route for your publication. Sometimes interpreting the publishing agreements is required, even then we are here to help.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the publication is ready, the research publication data is collected in the SoleCRIS- system<\/a> as librarys’ service. It is the authors responsibility to provide correct metadata of the publication, but library does the final validation. Informing the library about the publications can be done with a service form found at UEF e-services. Self-archiving can be requested with the same form. The service has been up for more than two years already.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All this work done at the backstage serves the cause of openness. The battle against fake news and ignorance isn\u2019t over yet \u2013 every action towards more open publications and more open world is needed. Librarys task is to be there and to serve this cause. Open science isn\u2019t just an empty phrase — it is in the meaningful actions which a library does every day.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n
