T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tarkastelen kirjaston toiminnan kehittymist\u00e4 viiden viime vuoden (2013 \u2013 2017) aikana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirjaston painettujen kirjojen lukum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on tasaantunut tuona kautena noin 700 000 kappaleeseen. Digitaalisten kirjojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on puolestaan jatkanut kasvuaan vuoden 2013 noin 400 000 nimekkkeest\u00e4 viime vuoden noin 600 000 nimekkeeseen. N\u00e4iden yhteenlaskettu nimekem\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 ylitt\u00e4\u00e4 jo miljoonan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Painettujen kirjojen vuotuinen lainaus on laskenut hitaasti noin 170&nbsp;000 lainasta 140&nbsp;000 lainaan. Sen sijaan e-kirjojen k\u00e4yt\u00f6n m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on kaksinkertaistunut tarkkailtuna viisivuotiskautena. Noin 900&nbsp;000 katsotusta dokumentista on p\u00e4\u00e4dytty reiluun kahteen miljoonaan. Muidenkin digitaalisten aineistojen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6luvut ovat s\u00e4ilyneet suurina ollen miljoonaluokkaa. Lukum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4isesti suurin tietoaineistojen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 on siirtynyt lopullisesti digitaaliseen ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n, kun e-kirjojen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6luvut ovat kasvaneet merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti t\u00e4n\u00e4 kautena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirjaston antama tiedonhaun opetus on ollut my\u00f6s hienoisessa kasvussa ja siin\u00e4kin on siirrytty verkko-opetukseen. Kirjaston asiakastilojen kehitt\u00e4minen n\u00e4kyy sek\u00e4 aukioloaikojen pidentymisen\u00e4 ett\u00e4 luku- ja ty\u00f6skentelypaikkojen lis\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirjaston toimintakulut ovat pysyneet k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 samana t\u00e4n\u00e4 aikana. Koska kulut ovat kuitenkin koko ajan kasvaneet, ovat tehostamistoimet vaikuttaneet niin, ett\u00e4 kirjaston henkil\u00f6st\u00e4n m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on v\u00e4hentynyt viisivuotiskaudella noin 15 henkil\u00f6ty\u00f6vuodella. K\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 vapautuva resurssi on k\u00e4ytetty aineistoihin, joiden hinnannousu on ollut noin 100&nbsp;000 euroa vuodessa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kirjastomme onkin hyvin tehokas. Digitaalisen aineiston lataushinta on pienentynyt koko ajan (viime vuonna \u20ac1,26) ja kokonaiskulut suhteutettuna yliopistolaisiin olivat viime vuonna noin 400 euroa. T\u00e4ll\u00e4 yliopiston panostuksella kukin yliopistolainen saa edell\u00e4 kuvatut kirjastoaineistot ja palvelut k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6ns\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"833\" height=\"628\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2018\/05\/Tilastoblogi_2017_Saarti.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5751\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2018\/05\/Tilastoblogi_2017_Saarti.jpg 833w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2018\/05\/Tilastoblogi_2017_Saarti-151x114.jpg 151w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2018\/05\/Tilastoblogi_2017_Saarti-768x579.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2018\/05\/Tilastoblogi_2017_Saarti-504x380.jpg 504w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 833px) 100vw, 833px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Library statistics for the year 2017 have been completed and can be accessed by visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/yhteistilasto.lib.helsinki.fi\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Research Library Statistics Database<\/a>. In the following, I will review the development of the library during the last five years (2013 &#8211; 2017).<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The number of print books in the library has been stabilized during that period to 700,000 copies. The number of digital books, on the other hand, has continued to grow from about 400,000 titles to some 600,000 titles in the year 2017. Their total number exceeds already a million titles.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The borrowing of print books has slowed down from about 170,000 loans to 140,000 loans. At the same time, the use of e-books has been doubled in numbers: from approximately 900,000 downloads to over two millions. The usage of other digital records has also remained high, the size being in one million downloads in each category. Thus, one can say that the major use of the documents has shifted to the digital environment, especially when the use of the e-books has grown significantly during this period.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The information skills training provided by the library has also increased a bit and it has also moved to eLearning. The development of the library&#8217;s premises is reflected both in prolonging the opening hours and in increasing the number of reading and working places.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The library&#8217;s operating costs have remained virtually the same during this period. However, as costs have increased all the time, the efficiency required from the library has meant a reduction in the number of staff in the library by about 15 person-years. In practice, the resource released has been used for the library collection, the price increase of which is around 100,000 euros per year.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Our library is very effective. The download price of digital material has been decreasing (last year \u20ac 1.26) and the total cost divided to each member of the university staff and students was about 400 euros.
