Sopimuksen my\u00f6t\u00e4 kirjasto alkoi saada Euroopan unionin komission julkaisuja ilmaiseksi ja my\u00f6s p\u00e4\u00e4syn tuolloin salasanoilla suljettuihin EU-tietokantoihin. Noina aikoina ennen Interneti\u00e4 kokoelman merkitys EU-tiedonl\u00e4hteen\u00e4 oli suuri, ja se korostui entisest\u00e4\u00e4n Suomen liittyess\u00e4 Euroopan unioniin vuonna 1995. My\u00f6s euron k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6notto vuonna 1999 oli t\u00e4rke\u00e4 aihe, jota k\u00e4sittelevi\u00e4 julkaisuja saatiin (ja my\u00f6s ostettiin) kokoelmaan jo useita vuosia aikaisemmin. Kun Joensuun ja Kuopion yliopistot yhdistyiv\u00e4t, uusi It\u00e4-Suomen yliopiston kirjasto peri EU-tallekirjaston aseman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Varsinkin 2010-luvulla painettu EU-kokoelma on menett\u00e4nyt merkityst\u00e4\u00e4n. Suuri osa EU:n julkaisuista on muuttunut vain s\u00e4hk\u00f6iseen muotoon, ja EU:n omaksuman tiedon avoimuuden periaatteen my\u00f6t\u00e4 sen tietokannatkin vapautettiin yleiseen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n. Ilmaiseksi saatujen painettujen aineistojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 ja my\u00f6s EU-kokoelman lainauskerrat ovat vuosi vuodelta v\u00e4hentyneet. Koska kirjaston hyllytilat supistuvat t\u00e4n\u00e4 kes\u00e4n\u00e4 toteutettavan 1. kerroksen remontin vuoksi, meid\u00e4n on luovuttava suuresta osasta v\u00e4h\u00e4lle k\u00e4yt\u00f6lle j\u00e4\u00e4neest\u00e4 aineistosta. EU-tallekirjaston k\u00e4ytetyimm\u00e4t kirjat on sulautettu muihin kokoelmiin, ja sinne tullaan edelleen liitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n asiakkaillemme hy\u00f6dyllist\u00e4 uutta aineistoa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1506\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/05\/EU-Bookshop_etusivu.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3869\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/05\/EU-Bookshop_etusivu.jpg 1800w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/05\/EU-Bookshop_etusivu-768x643.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1800px) 100vw, 1800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mutta onneksi mit\u00e4\u00e4n korvaamatonta ei ole menetetty, sill\u00e4 avoimuusihanteensa mukaisesti Euroopan unionin komissio aloitti jo vuosia sitten massiivisen digitointiohjelman. Kaikkien EU-elinten arkistot ja varastot koluttiin l\u00e4pi, ja kaikki l\u00f6ytyneet julkaisut aina perustamisvuodesta 1952 l\u00e4htien tallennettiin PDF-muotoon vapaasti luettavaksi ja kopioitavaksi <strong>EU Bookshopin<\/strong> yhteyteen. Jo aloitusvaiheessa vuonna 2009 kokoelma sis\u00e4lsi yli 110&nbsp;000 nimekett\u00e4, ja m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 kasvaa koko ajan. T\u00e4m\u00e4 valtava digitaalinen kirjasto l\u00f6ytyy osoitteesta <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.europa.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/bookshop.europa.eu<\/a>&nbsp; ja sielt\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyv\u00e4t EU-aineistot viel\u00e4p\u00e4 kaikilla niiden julkaisukielill\u00e4. Jos siis joskus k\u00e4ytit jotain tallekirjastossa ollutta teosta, l\u00f6yd\u00e4t sen t\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 (jopa suomen kielell\u00e4, jos se oli sille k\u00e4\u00e4nnetty). EU Bookshopilla on kyll\u00e4 suomenkielinenkin sivusto, mutta jos etsit englanninkielisi\u00e4 julkaisuja, on viisainta aloittaa <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.europa.eu\/en\/search\/advanced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">englanninkielisell\u00e4 haulla<\/a>. Joensuu University Library became a <strong>European Documentation Centre Library<\/strong> in 1984. It meant that the Library started to receive free copies of EU Commission\u2019s publications, and also got access to EU databases. During those pre-Internet ages this was a very important information source for European integration matters. The collection became even more important when Finland joined the EU in 1995 and the Euro Zone in 1999.\u00a0 In 2010 The Unversity of Eastern Finland Library inherited the EDC library status.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">During this decade the importance and also use of this printed collection has diminished. More and more EU publications only appear in electronic form, and according to the principle of \u201cfreedom of knowledge\u201d EU databases were opened to everyone. We receive less and less free publications every year and only few books have been checked out from the collection. During this summer\u2019s renovations at the Joensuu Campus Library we lose many bookshelves and consequently have to reduce some less-used collections. EU collection books actually checked out during last few years have been transferred to other library collections. New useful EU publications will also be added to the collections in the future.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1077\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/05\/EU-Bookshop_haku.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3871\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/05\/EU-Bookshop_haku.jpg 1800w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/ueflibrary\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2017\/05\/EU-Bookshop_haku-768x460.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1800px) 100vw, 1800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">But nothing has been lost. Some years ago the EU Commission digitized all EU publications they could find from various storehouses and archives, and now they can be freely downloaded as PDF documents beginning from the founding year 1952 at <strong>EU Bookshop<\/strong>. From the address <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.europa.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/bookshop.europa.eu<\/a> \u00a0you can find more than 110\u00a0000 titles and even more of their translations in all official EU languages.\u00a0 So there are also all those books we used to store in printed form. It is best to <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.europa.eu\/en\/search\/advanced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">search for books in English<\/a> first. Once you have found your title, you can see it\u2019s possible other language versions also. Check out this vast free electronic library.
