Toivottavasti ainakin t\u00e4st\u00e4 tutkijasta saa ajan my\u00f6t\u00e4 kaivettua j\u00e4lleen esiin sen yl\u00e4asteik\u00e4isen tettil\u00e4isen, joka kirjastoharjoittelunsa j\u00e4lkeen harhautui vuosikymmeniksi tutkijan polulle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olen Riikka Airaksinen ja aloitin toukokuussa UEFin kirjastossa tietoasiantuntijana. Tulen syksyst\u00e4 alkaen opettamaan tiedonhakua hoitotieteen sek\u00e4 sosiaali- ja terveysjohtamisen perusopiskelijoille. Tulen my\u00f6s opettamaan Zotero-viitehallintaohjelman k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 sek\u00e4 systemaattisten katsausten tekoa Covidencella. Tiedonhaku on ollut t\u00e4rke\u00e4 osa my\u00f6s aiempaa tutkijan ty\u00f6t\u00e4ni, mutta nyt siis p\u00e4\u00e4sen hypp\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n opetusteht\u00e4viin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valmistuin vuonna 2007 Kuopion yliopistosta ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6tiede p\u00e4\u00e4aineenani. Olin jo opiskelun aikana p\u00e4\u00e4ssyt harjoitteluun Neulaniementien toisella puolella sijaitsevaan Tutkimuskeskus Neulaseen, Kansanterveyslaitoksen ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6terveyden osastolle. Niiss\u00e4 hommissa viihdyin lopulta tutkijana melkein parikymment\u00e4 vuotta. Tutkimusaiheenani olivat erilaiset ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6ss\u00e4 olevat haitalliset kemikaalit ja suomalaisten altistuminen niille. Varsinaisen tutkimuksen lis\u00e4ksi osa ty\u00f6ajastani meni viranomaistyyppisiin teht\u00e4viin ja tiedeviestint\u00e4\u00e4n. Tied\u00e4n siis esimerkiksi, miten sedimentti\u00e4 kylm\u00e4kuivataan, mik\u00e4 on taimenen latinankielinen nimi, miten direktiiveihin p\u00e4\u00e4see vaikuttamaan ja miten somemutruja k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uskoisin, ett\u00e4 tutkijataustani auttaa minua antamaan k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6llisi\u00e4 tiedonhakuvinkkej\u00e4 tuleville tutkijoille. Mielell\u00e4ni jakaisin osaamistani my\u00f6s tiedeviestinn\u00e4st\u00e4 ja tieteen popularisoinnista. Oman tutkimusaiheen tiivist\u00e4minen esimerkiksi yhteen infograafiin suomeksi, ei jargoniksi, on mielest\u00e4ni oleellinen taito tutkijalle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kes\u00e4n aikana olen jo hieman ehtinyt tutustua kirjastoty\u00f6n eri puoliin. Informaatiotutkimuksen p\u00e4\u00e4sykoekirja on ollut taukolukemisena ja ensi lukuvuoden oppimateriaalit odottavat valmiina uusia opiskelijoita. Ty\u00f6kaverit ovat ottaneet minut ihanan l\u00e4mp\u00f6isesti vastaan ja tied\u00e4n, ett\u00e4 ensi talven haasteissa voin pyyt\u00e4\u00e4 neuvoja tilanteissa, joihin tutkijan kokemus ei riit\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vapaa-aikani kulutan virkkaamalla, pelaamalla ja tekem\u00e4ll\u00e4 sis\u00e4lt\u00f6\u00e4 someen. Py\u00f6rit\u00e4n omaksi ilokseni useampaakin pient\u00e4 sometili\u00e4, joihin toivotan t\u00e4ss\u00e4 lopuksi viel\u00e4 kaikki kiinnostuneet tutustumaan: Kielletytsanat, Riiksbergvirkkaa ja Riiksbergplays. My name is Riikka Airaksinen and I started working as an information specialist at the UEF library in May. This autumn, I will be teaching information retrieval to students in nursing science as well as social and health management. I will also be teaching how to use the Zotero reference management program and how to create systematic reviews with Covidence. Information retrieval has been important in my previous life as a researcher, but now I get to jump into teaching.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I graduated from the University of Kuopio in 2007 with a major in environmental science. During my studies, I was lucky to do an internship at the Research Center Neulanen, located on the other side of Neulaniementie, in the Department of Environmental Health of the Public Health Institute. I ended up working as a researcher there for almost twenty years. My research topic was various harmful chemicals in the environment and the exposure of Finns to them. In addition to actual research, part of my time was spent on government tasks and science communication. For example, I now know how to freeze-dry sediment, what the Latin name for trout is, how to influence EU directives, and how to deal with social media trolls.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe that my research background will help me give practical information-seeking tips to future researchers. I would also be happy to share my knowledge of science communication and the popularization of science. I believe that being able to describe your research topic concisely, for example in a single infographic, in a non-jargon way, is an essential skill for a researcher.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the summer, I have already had time to get to know different aspects of library work. I have read the entrance exam book for information studies and the study materials for the next academic year are ready and waiting for new students. My colleagues have welcomed me with wonderful warmth and I know that in the challenges of next winter I can ask for advice in situations where the experience of a researcher is not enough.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the way, I spend my free time crocheting, playing video games and creating content for social media. I run several small social media accounts, which I would like to encourage anyone interested to check out: Kielletytsanat, Riiksbergvirkkaa and Riiksbergplays.
