Eurooppalaiset terveystieteiden kirjasto- ja tietopalveluammattilaiset kokoontuvat vuosittain ammatilliseen EAHIL<\/a>-tapahtumaan — vuorovuosin konferenssiin ja workshopiin — eri puolilla Eurooppaa. Osallistuimme 9.-13.6.2025 pidettyyn EAHIL 2025 workshop<\/a>iin \u0141\u00f3d\u017aissa, Puolassa. Workshopin teemat ”I<\/strong>nform, M<\/strong>anage, A<\/strong>.I., G<\/strong>row, I<\/strong>ntegrate, N<\/strong>etwork, E<\/strong>xplore<\/bdo>” (tiedottaa, hallita\/hoitaa\/johtaa\/, teko\u00e4ly, kasvaa, verkostoitua, sopeuttaa\/yhdist\u00e4\u00e4, perehty\u00e4\/tutkia) oli tiivistetty sanaan ”Imagine” (kuvitella, kuvittele). Workshopin antia nyt hieman sulateltuamme esitimme toisillemme ja itsellemme kysymyksi\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voisitko EAHIL 2025 Workshopin kansainv\u00e4lisen ohjelmatoimikunnan (IPC<\/a>) j\u00e4senen\u00e4 kertoa teeman keksimisest\u00e4 sek\u00e4 esitysten ja ty\u00f6pajojen valinnasta? Haluatko kertoa jotakin esityssession puheenjohtajana toimimisesta?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oli upeaa saada kutsu liitty\u00e4 IPCn j\u00e4seneksi vuoden 2024 alussa. Eli EAHIL-tilaisuuksien suunnittelu aloitetaan jo muutamaa vuotta aiemmin, mik\u00e4 on tietenkin j\u00e4rkev\u00e4\u00e4. Teema eli tuo alussakin mainittu IMAGINE oli jo keksitty paikallisen j\u00e4rjestelytoimikunnan puolelta ennen kuin liityin mukaan, ja olikin oikein luovasti keksitty heilt\u00e4. Esitysten ja ty\u00f6pajojen ehdotelmatiivistelmi\u00e4 luimme ja arvioimme IPC:n muiden j\u00e4senten kanssa, ja yhteisen konsensuksen eli online-palaverien kautta saimme hyv\u00e4n ohjelman kokoon \u0141\u00f3d\u017aiin. Oli antoisaa kuulua IPC:hen! Ai niin, ja sainhan toimia my\u00f6s ”chairwomanina” yhdess\u00e4 sessiossa, mik\u00e4 sekin oli j\u00e4nnitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4, mutta antoisaa! Kunhan vain otti hieman selv\u00e4\u00e4 session esiintyjist\u00e4 etuk\u00e4teen, niin kaikki sujui kyll\u00e4 omalla painollaan, ja muilta esimerkki\u00e4 ottaneena saimme yhdess\u00e4 yleis\u00f6n kanssa session sujumaan kunnialla l\u00e4pi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mik\u00e4 oli parasta EAHIL 2025 workshopissa? Ent\u00e4 mist\u00e4 et kenties pit\u00e4nyt?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ainahan EAHIL-tilaisuuksissa on l\u00e4mmin ja v\u00e4lit\u00f6n fiilis, ja niin se oli t\u00e4ll\u00e4kin kertaa. On se vaan kumma, ett\u00e4 pit\u00e4\u00e4 l\u00e4hte\u00e4 ulkomaille asti tapaamaan suomalaisia kollegoita. Eli se oli kenties parasta, ett\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4si tutustumaan uusiin suomalaisiin kollegoihin. Unohtamatta tietenk\u00e4\u00e4n kaikkia kansainv\u00e4lisi\u00e4 kollegoita, joiden kanssa juttu jatkui siit\u00e4, mihin se oli vuosi sitten j\u00e4\u00e4nyt. Parasta oli my\u00f6s k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n ty\u00f6kalut, joita sain omaan ty\u00f6h\u00f6ni esitysten ja ty\u00f6pajojen my\u00f6t\u00e4! Kysy minulta lis\u00e4\u00e4, jos kiinnostuit. Vinkki, ett\u00e4 ty\u00f6kalut liittyv\u00e4t terveystieteiden tiedonhakuun sek\u00e4 teko\u00e4lyyn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jotain tosi pient\u00e4 h\u00e4slinki\u00e4 oli tekniikan ja tiedotuksen kanssa. Esimerkiksi esityksen pit\u00e4ji\u00e4 ei tiedotettu riitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti siit\u00e4, kuinka k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6t saleissa menev\u00e4tk\u00e4\u00e4n ja miten puhujat saavat esityksens\u00e4 n\u00e4kyviin, mutta kaikesta aina selvittiin yhdess\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parasta oli, kuten aina, vaihtaa n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 ja kokemuksia eurooppalaisten, ja muutamien kauempaakin tulleiden, kollegoiden kanssa sek\u00e4 ty\u00f6pajoissa ett\u00e4 tauoilla. Keskustelu oli vilkasta my\u00f6s monien suullisten esitysten yhteydess\u00e4, mik\u00e4 on ilahduttavaa ja antoisaa. Tunnelma oli v\u00e4lit\u00f6n ja yst\u00e4v\u00e4llismielinen. Sain kuulla mielenkiintoisia esityksi\u00e4 ja osallistua antoisiin ty\u00f6pajoihin. Lis\u00e4ksi p\u00e4\u00e4sin my\u00f6s tapaamaan monia vanhoja tuttuja sek\u00e4 tutustuin uusiin ihmisiin, my\u00f6s EAHIL-ensikertalaisiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jos jotakin kielteist\u00e4 on mainittava, oli se ajoittain (konferenssihotellille yll\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4n) vaivalloisesti toimiva \u00e4\u00e4nentoisto suuressa salissa, jossa kaikille yhteiset plenary<\/em>-sessiot pidettiin. Pienemmiss\u00e4 saleissa ongelmaa ei ilmennyt, koska niiss\u00e4 ei tarvinnut k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 mikrofoneja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Miten oma esitys sujui?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oma esitys Helsingin yliopiston kirjaston tietoasiantuntija Katri Larmon<\/strong> kanssa sujui mainiosti. Olimme harjoitelleet esityksen pitoa aikalaskurin kanssa Teamsin v\u00e4lityksell\u00e4, ettemme ylitt\u00e4isi aikaamme, ja se tavoite piti. N\u00e4in keskustelulle j\u00e4i mukavasti aikaa ja saimmekin hyvi\u00e4 kommentteja ja kysymyksi\u00e4 aiheestamme, mik\u00e4 oli ”Open gamified learning material about information retrieval in health sciences<\/bdo><\/strong>”. Kerroimme kuinka yhteisty\u00f6 kahden yliopiston v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ja avoimen oppimateriaalin julkaisemisprosessi sujuivatkaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Miten ty\u00f6pajan vet\u00e4minen sujui?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pidin torstaina 75 minuutin ty\u00f6pajan otsikolla ”Slogans for libraries – What, Why, Where, and How?<\/bdo>” Aihe liittyi viestint\u00e4\u00e4n, koska oma p\u00e4\u00e4teht\u00e4v\u00e4ni kirjastossa on koordinoida ja kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 kirjaston viestint\u00e4\u00e4. Ty\u00f6pajaan osallistui 14 aktiivista kollegaa, jotka loivat 14 mainiota slogania. K\u00e4ytin esityksess\u00e4 ja osallistujien aktivoinnissa Mentimeteria, joka toimi t\u00e4ss\u00e4 ty\u00f6pajassa todella hyvin. Onneksi meill\u00e4 on k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 maksullinen versio, jossa voi tehd\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n kuin muutaman dian! Mentimeterin lis\u00e4ksi ty\u00f6pajassa ty\u00f6skenneltiin pareittain perinteisesti kyn\u00e4ll\u00e4 ja paperilla. Koin ty\u00f6pajan onnistuneen hyvin ja ilmeisesti osallistujat ja joku arviointitoimikunnasta olivat samaa mielt\u00e4, sill\u00e4 sain perjantain loppuseremoniassa maininnan, vaikkakaan en palkintoa. EAHIL palkitsee vuosittain parhaat eri kategorioissa (suullinen esitys, pikaesitys, ty\u00f6paja ja posteri, joita ei t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa ollut) sek\u00e4 parhaan ensikertalaisen. Palkinnot perustuvat suurimmalta osalta arviointitoimikunnan arvioihin ja pienelt\u00e4 osalta my\u00f6s kaikkien halukkaiden osallistujien arvioihin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


J\u00e4ik\u00f6 jommasta kummasta keynote<\/bdo>-esitelm\u00e4st\u00e4 jotain erityist\u00e4 mieleen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keynote<\/bdo>ja oli kaksi, aluksi ja lopuksi. Tilastotieteilij\u00e4 Janina B\u0105k<\/a><\/strong>in eloisa, informatiivinen ja hauska edutainment<\/bdo><\/em>-tyyppinen esitys otsikolla ”How to fight fake news, disinfomation and misinformation with the use of mathematical thinking<\/bdo>” aloitti tapahtuman. Valeuutisia sek\u00e4 dis- ja misinformaatiota vastaan taisteleminen ja kaikenlaisten lukutaitojen, muun muassa informaatio-, media- ja teko\u00e4lylukutaidon edist\u00e4minen kuuluu kirjasto- ja informaatioalan ammattilaisten teht\u00e4viin. Yksi B\u0105kin salaliittoteoriaesimerkeist\u00e4 liittyi puluihin ja drooneihin, ja vitsailimmekin aiheesta pitkin viikkoa, sill\u00e4 \u0141\u00f3d\u017aissa n\u00e4kyi paljon kesykyyhkyj\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olen Tuulevin kanssa ehdottomasti samaa mielt\u00e4, ett\u00e4 alun keynote-puhe Janina B\u0105kin pit\u00e4m\u00e4n\u00e4 oli mieleenpainuva ja inspiroiva. Drooni-puluja taitaa olla Suomessakin. :)<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Mitk\u00e4 muut esitykset j\u00e4iv\u00e4t erityisesti mieleen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remy van Alebeek<\/strong>in esitys ”Smart searches on a Budget: Truncation in Proximity Made Possible in PubMed<\/bdo>” on paitsi todella kiinnostava my\u00f6s hyvin toteutettu. Aihe osuu suoraan l\u00e4\u00e4ketieteen ja l\u00e4hialojen ty\u00f6n ytimeen niin opetuksen ja ohjauksen kuin toimeksiantojenkin kannalta. J\u00e4in innostuneena odottamaan jatkoa eli p\u00e4\u00e4sy\u00e4 esitellyn ty\u00f6kalun testaamiseen, josta on luvassa lis\u00e4tietoa l\u00e4hiaikoina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mainitsen my\u00f6s turkulaiskollegoidemme Leeni Lehti\u00f6<\/strong>n ja Nea P\u00e4l\u00e4<\/strong>n pit\u00e4m\u00e4n esityksen ”Board game nights as a tool for student well-being and engagement<\/bdo>”. Turun yliopiston Teutorin kirjastossa on edistetty opiskelijahyvinvointia j\u00e4rjest\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 lautapeli-iltoja, jotka ovat olleet hyvin suosittuja. Vastaavaa on tarkoitus toteuttaa onnistuneen pilotin j\u00e4lkeen my\u00f6s muissa kirjastoyksik\u00f6iss\u00e4. Ehk\u00e4p\u00e4 mekin voisimme kokeilla vastaavaa? Hyv\u00e4t k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6t jakoon!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lis\u00e4ksi mieleeni j\u00e4i Eli Harriss<\/strong>in kaksi esityst\u00e4 kirjaston henkil\u00f6kunnan hyvinvoinnin edist\u00e4misest\u00e4 sek\u00e4 tiedonhaun ohjausten suosion selvittelyst\u00e4. Elin esitykset olivat nimelt\u00e4\u00e4n ”Wellbeing ideas for a medical library service<\/bdo>” ja ”Shaking it up: A research project to determine why our information skills training sessions are so popular<\/bdo>”. Mielenkiintoisten aiheiden lis\u00e4ksi Eli on hyv\u00e4 esiintyj\u00e4 ja heill\u00e4 on kirjastollaan Oxfordin yliopistossa muun muassa sek\u00e4 ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4n aikaisia k\u00e4velylenkkej\u00e4 ett\u00e4 vapaa-ajalla tapahtuvia yhteisi\u00e4 illanviettoja ty\u00f6kavereiden kanssa, mik\u00e4 kuulostaa mahtavalle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Haluatko mainita erityisesti jonkin 3-minuuttisen pikaesityksen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yksi esitys oli mieleenpainuva silt\u00e4 osin, ett\u00e4 esiintyj\u00e4 oli tehnyt diaesityksest\u00e4\u00e4n kolmen minuutin videon, jossa diat vaihtuivat ja h\u00e4n vain itse tuotti \u00e4\u00e4nen diojen p\u00e4\u00e4lle. H\u00e4n varmasti ajatteli, ettei n\u00e4in ylit\u00e4 kolmen minuutin tiukkaa esitysaikarajaa, mutta olikin j\u00e4nn\u00e4 huomata, ett\u00e4 diat vaihtuivatkin ik\u00e4\u00e4nkuin liian hitaasti h\u00e4nen puheeseensa verrattuna eli tuli pieni\u00e4 hiljaisia taukoja. Joka toisaalta sekin oli virkist\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 muiden puheisiin n\u00e4hden. T\u00e4m\u00e4 puhuja oli nimelt\u00e4\u00e4n Rapha\u00ebl Grolimund<\/strong>, Lausannen yliopistollisen sairaalan kirjastosta ja aiheenaan Zoteron hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4minen systemaattisten katsausten teossa. Ehk\u00e4p\u00e4 Zotero ei kuitenkaan syrj\u00e4yt\u00e4 esimerkiksi Covidencea, joka on meill\u00e4 UEFissa k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 helpottamaan systemaattisten katsausten artikkelien l\u00e4pik\u00e4ynti\u00e4. Kirjoitusvaiheessa Zotero on kultaakin arvokkaampi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mieleen j\u00e4i ainakin ukrainalaisen Marta Nadraga<\/strong>n esitys ”The Libraries in Times of Russian-Ukrainian War: Analyzing the Operational Experience of the Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University Scientific Library<\/bdo>” sek\u00e4 poikkeuksellisen aiheensa — me muut emme ty\u00f6skentele maassa, jossa on sota tai joudu kovin usein paneutumaan sotilasl\u00e4\u00e4ketieteellisiin aiheisiin — ett\u00e4 saamiensa pitkien, tukea osoittaneiden aplodien vuoksi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Mihin ty\u00f6pajoihin osallistuit? Millaista niiss\u00e4 oli?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osallistuin kolmeen ty\u00f6pajaan (omani lis\u00e4ksi). Mala Mann<\/strong>in ty\u00f6pajassa ”Evaluating the accuracy of a search strategy for optimal result retrieval<\/bdo>” pureuduimme k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n esimerkin avulla arvioimaan hakustrategian toimivuutta optimaalisen eli sek\u00e4 osuvan ett\u00e4 kattavan tuloksen saamiseksi. Saimme vinkkej\u00e4 ja jaoimme kokemuksia ty\u00f6mme ytimeen kuuluvista taidoista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irma Klerings<\/strong>in ja Mala Mann<\/strong>in ty\u00f6pajassa ”Informing the systematic search process: How to improve communication between information specialists\/librarians and researchers<\/bdo>” k\u00e4ytiin vilkkaita ryhm\u00e4keskusteluja siit\u00e4, miten tutkijoiden usein hyvinkin laveasti ja toisinaan hieman ep\u00e4selv\u00e4stikin ilmaisevat hakuaiheet saadaan yhdess\u00e4 aiheesta puhumalla ja sit\u00e4 k\u00e4sitteiksi purkamalla muotoiltua sellaisiksi, ett\u00e4 tiedonhakuja p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n tekem\u00e4\u00e4n. Osallistujien kesken, eri maiden ja organisaatioiden k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ist\u00e4 johtuen, jaettiin hyvinkin erilaisia ajatuksia siit\u00e4, onko helpompaa, nopeampaa tai muuten parempi, ett\u00e4 tietoasiantuntija tekee haut (jolloin h\u00e4n kuuluu tutkimusryhm\u00e4\u00e4n ja on yksi artikkelin kirjoittajista) vai ett\u00e4 tietoasiantuntija opettaa, ohjaa ja neuvoo tutkijoita tekem\u00e4\u00e4n. Vet\u00e4j\u00e4t totesivat, ett\u00e4 sellainen artikkeli, jossa yhten\u00e4 tekij\u00e4n\u00e4, hakustrategian laatijana ja sen raportoijana on tiedonhaun ammattilainen, on laadukkaampi kuin sellainen, jossa ei ole. (Katso esim. Librarian co-authors correlated with higher quality reported search strategies in general internal medicine systematic reviews<\/bdo><\/a>.) Yh\u00e4 useammin tietoasiantuntijat toimivat my\u00f6s hakustrategioiden vertaisarvioijina<\/a>. Ehk\u00e4p\u00e4 suomalaisenkin tieteen tasoon voisi vaikuttaa resursoimalla tutkimusryhmi\u00e4 my\u00f6s tiedonhaun ammattilaisten ty\u00f6panoksella?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remy van Alebeek<\/strong>in ja Floor Ruiter<\/strong>in vet\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 ty\u00f6pajassa ”Enhancing your Systematic Search Strategy with Generative AI: A Workshop on Prompting Techniques for Information Specialists<\/bdo>” p\u00e4\u00e4simme ryhmiss\u00e4 tai pareittain kokeilemaan kehotteiden laatimisen tekniikkaa systemaattisia tiedonhakuja varten. Meit\u00e4 ohjeistettiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n ChatGPT:t\u00e4, mutta min\u00e4 ja brittiparini, joka ei ollut koskaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt kumpaakaan k\u00e4ytimme Copilotia. Opimme, ett\u00e4 hyv\u00e4n lopputuloksen kehotteiden eli promptien kirjoittamisessa oleellista on kertoa mahdollisimman tarkasti vaihe vaiheelta, mit\u00e4 haluaa teko\u00e4lyn tekev\u00e4n. My\u00f6s teko\u00e4lyn k\u00e4ytt\u00e4misen riskeihin ja etiikkaan (ei sensitiivist\u00e4 dataa, huomioitava tekij\u00e4noikeudet, estett\u00e4v\u00e4 puolueellisuus ja syrjint\u00e4, vastuu aina ihmisell\u00e4) kiinnitettiin huomiota. Hauska ty\u00f6paja, jossa aika riensi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osallistuin kahteen ty\u00f6pajaan, koska halusin n\u00e4hd\u00e4 t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa enemm\u00e4n suullisia esityksi\u00e4. Tuulevi k\u00e4vikin yll\u00e4 jo l\u00e4pi Mala Mann<\/strong>in ja hollantilaisten vet\u00e4m\u00e4t ty\u00f6pajat, joihin samoihin siis osallistuin itsekin. Sanottakoon se, ett\u00e4 olimme ty\u00f6pajoissa eri ryhmiss\u00e4, eli sit\u00e4 kautta saimme omat osallistumiskokemukset emmek\u00e4 keskustelleet vain kesken\u00e4mme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00e4ss\u00e4 yhteydess\u00e4 voisin mainita Continuing Education Course<\/bdo> (CEC) -kurssin, johon osallistuin ennen Workshopin alkua. Joka vuosi EAHIL-tapahtuman yhteydess\u00e4 pidet\u00e4\u00e4n n\u00e4it\u00e4 t\u00e4ydennyskoulutuskursseja, jotka auttavat kehittym\u00e4\u00e4n omassa ty\u00f6ss\u00e4. T\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa osallistuin kurssille nimelt\u00e4 ”Create Data Management Plans more effectively<\/bdo>” ja sen veti puolalainen Jakub Rusakow<\/strong>. Jakub esitteli meille omatekem\u00e4\u00e4ns\u00e4, rakenteista ja dynaamista DMP:n eli aineistonhallintasuunnitelman mallipohjaa, jota h\u00e4n k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 tutkijoiden kanssa ty\u00f6ss\u00e4\u00e4n datatuessa. Saimme itse t\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 ja kokeilla mallipohjaa, ja hienostihan se toimi. Ainut haastava seikka oli, ett\u00e4 kun DMP:n latasi docx-versiona ulos j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4st\u00e4, niin sivum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 kipusi jopa viisinkertaiseksi verrattuna siihen, ett\u00e4 DMP:ss\u00e4 olisi vain vapaatekstikentti\u00e4. Sivum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 on haaste etenkin niille DMP:lle, jotka on tarkoitettu rahoittajille, koska rahoittajilla on tarkat sivurajat, joita ei saa ylitt\u00e4\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European health library and information professionals gather each year for a professional EAHIL <\/a>event — alternately a conference and a workshop — across Europe. We participated EAHIL 2025 workshop<\/a> in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Poland, on 10-13 June 2025. The themes of the workshop \u201cI<\/strong>nform, M<\/strong>anage, A<\/strong>.I., G<\/strong>row, I<\/strong>ntegrate, N<\/strong>etwork, E<\/strong>xplore\u201d were summarized with the word \u201cImagine\u201d. After a little digesting, we asked ourselves questions related to our experiences in<\/bdo> \u0141\u00f3d\u017a<\/bdo>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a member of the International Program Committee (IPC<\/a>) of the EAHIL 2025 Workshop, could you tell about the invention of the theme and the selection of performances and workshops? Is there anything you want to say about chairing a session?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was great to be invited to join IPC at the beginning of 2024. The planning of EAHIL events starts a few years earlier, which of course makes sense. The theme IMAGINE that was mentioned at the beginning, had already been invented by the local organizing committee before I joined in and was very creatively invented by them. We reviewed and evaluated the abstracts of the presentations and the workshop together with the other members of the IPC and through a common consensus, i.e. online meetings, created a good programme for the workshop in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a. It was great to be part of the IPC! I got to be a chairwoman in one session, which was also exciting, but rewarding! As long as I just prepared beforehand by finding out the background of the performers of the session, everything went well with the help of active audience.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was the best thing about the EAHIL 2025 workshop? And was there something you didn’t like?<\/bdo><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is always a warm and immediate atmosphere at the EAHIL events and that was the case this time as well. It is quite amusing to have to go all the way abroad to meet Finnish colleagues but it was perhaps the best part that I got to meet new Finnish colleagues, not forgetting, of course, all the international colleagues with whom the discussions continued from where it had left off a year ago. The best part was also the practical tools and ideas that I got for my own work from the presentations and workshops! Ask me more if you are interested. By the way, these tools are related to information retrieval in health sciences and artificial intelligence.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best thing was, as always, to exchange views and experiences with colleagues in Europe, and a few from afar, both in workshops and during breaks. The discussion was also lively after many oral presentations, which is gratifying and rewarding. The atmosphere was convivial and friendly. Not only did I get to hear interesting presentations and participate in rewarding workshops, but I had a chance to meet many old acquaintances again and also got to know new people — new to the field, the organization and me. <\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If something negative has to be mentioned, it was at times (surprisingly for a conference hotel) the occasionally not so good sound system in the large hall where the plenary sessions were held. The smaller halls did not have this problem because there the presenters did not use microphones.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How was your presentation?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My presentation with Katri Larmo<\/strong>, information specialist at the University of Helsinki Library went very well. We had rehearsed the presentation with the time counter through Teams so that we wouldn’t exceed our time and that goal was achieved. This left us with plenty of time for discussion and we got some good comments and questions on our topic, which was ”Open gamified learning material about information retrieval in health sciences”. In the presentation we discussed how the collaboration between the two universities and how the open learning material publishing process succeeded.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How was your workshop?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I held a 75-minute workshop on Thursday titled ”Slogans for libraries – What, Why, Where, and How?” The topic was related to communication, because my main task in the library is to coordinate and develop the library’s communication. The workshop was attended by 14 active colleagues who created 14 great slogans. I used Mentimeter in the presentation and activation of the participants, which worked really well in this workshop. Fortunately, we have a paid version where you can do more than a few slides! In addition to Mentimeter, the participants worked in pairs with pen and paper. I felt the workshop was successful and apparently the participants and someone from the evaluation committee agreed, as I got a mention at the final ceremony on Friday, although not an award. Each year, EAHIL awards the winner in different categories (oral performance, short presentation, workshop and poster, which did not exist this time) as well as the best first timer. For the most part, the awards are based on the assessments of the evaluation committee and for a small part, on the assessments of all willing participants.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did one of the keynote presentations leave a memorable track?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were two keynote speeches, one to start and another to end the workshop. The lively, informative and funny edutainment-type presentation by statistician Janina B\u0105k<\/strong><\/a> entitled ”How to fight fake news, disinformation and misinformation with the use of mathematical thinking” launched the event. Combating fake news, disinformation and misinformation, and promoting all kinds of literacy, including information literacy, media literacy and AI literacy, are among the tasks of library and information professionals. One of B\u0105k’s examples of a conspiracy theory was about pigeons and drones, and we joked about the subject throughout the week, as there were a lot of pigeons in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I absolutely agree with Tuulevi that the keynote speech given by Janina B\u0105k<\/strong> in the beginning was of most memorable and inspiring. I think there might be drone pigeons in Finland too. :)<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What other presentations were particularly memorable?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remy van Alebeek<\/strong>’s topic ”Smart searches on a Budget: Truncation in Proximity Made Possible in PubMed” was not only really interesting but also well executed. The topic directly hits the core of our work as information specialists in health sciences, in teaching and guidance as well as systematic searches. I’m excited to wait for the next step, i.e. access to the testing of the presented tool, of which further information should be available in the near future.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also mention the ”Board game nights as a tool for student well-being and engagement” by our Turku colleagues Leeni Lehti\u00f6<\/strong> and Nea P\u00e4l\u00e4<\/strong>. The University of Turku Teutori Library has promoted student well-being by organising board game evenings, which have been very popular. The same is planned to be implemented in other library units after a successful pilot. Perhaps we could try something similar as well? Good practices should be shared!<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I agree that Remy van Alebeek<\/strong> from Maastricht University gave an amazing presentation and from there I got the information retrieval tool for my own work that I mentioned at the beginning.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, I was amazed by two presentations of Eli Harriss<\/strong> on promoting the well-being of library staff and explaining the popularity of information retrieval trainings. Eli’s performances were titled ”Wellbeing ideas for a medical library service” and ”Shaking it up: A research project to determine why our information skills training sessions are so popular”. In addition to interesting topics, Eli is a good presenter and what’s the most interesting they have both daytime walks at their library at the University of Oxford and social evenings with colleagues, which sounds great.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you want to mention any 3-minute presentations in particular?<\/bdo><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One presentation was memorable in that the presenter had made a three-minute video of his slide show, in which the slides changed, and he only produced the sound himself on top of the slides. In this way, he probably thought he would not exceed the three-minute time limit, but it was interesting to notice that the slides changed too slowly compared to his speech, i.e. there were small quiet breaks. Which, on the other hand, was refreshing in comparison to other presentations. This speaker was called Rapha\u00ebl Grolimund<\/strong>, from the Lausanne University Hospital Library and his topic was utilizing Zotero for systematic reviews. However, perhaps Zotero will not replace programs such as Covidence, which we have at UEF to help researchers with systematic reviews. When writing a manuscript, Zotero is the most useful tool there is.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to mention Marta Nadraga<\/strong>’s presentation ”The Libraries in Times of Russian-Ukrainian War: Analyzing the Operational Experience of the Danylo Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University Scientific Library” not only because of the exceptional subject — the most of us don’t work in countries where there is war or don’t often have to focus especially on military medicine — but also due to the long applause, expressing support, she received.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which interactive workshops did you participate in? How were they?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I participated in three interactive workshops (in addition to my own). In Mala Mann<\/strong>’s workshop ”Evaluating the accuracy of a search strategy for optimal result retrieval”, we used a practical example to assess the functionality of the search strategy for optimal results, both apt and comprehensive. We received tips and shared experiences of the skills at the heart of our work.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Irma Klerings<\/strong>’ and Mala Mann<\/strong>’s workshop ”Informing the systematic search process: How to improve communication between information specialists\/librarians and researchers” there were lively group discussions on how researchers’ often very broad and sometimes somewhat ambiguous search topics can be achieved by speaking together on the topic and deconstructing it into concepts to make it so. Very different ideas were shared among the participants, due to the practices of different countries and organisations, as to whether it is easier, faster or otherwise better for the information specialist to do the searches (in which case he belongs to the research group and is one of the authors of the article) or for the information specialist to teach, guide and advise the researchers to do the searches themselves. The authors noted that an article co-authored by a librarian is often higher quality than one without an information specialist’s involvement in reporting the searches. (See e.g., Librarian co-authors correlated with higher quality reported search strategies in general internal medicine systematic reviews<\/a>.) Increasingly, information specialists function as peer reviewers of search strategies<\/a>. Possibly the level of Finnish science could also be influenced by resourcing research groups with the input of information retrieval professionals.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the workshop ”Enhancing your Systematic Search Strategy with Generative AI: A Workshop on Prompting Techniques for Information Specialists” led by Remy van Alebeek<\/strong> and Floor Ruiter<\/strong>, we got to try the technique of prompting for systematic information searches in groups or pairs. We were instructed to use ChatGPT, but me and my British partner, who had never used either, used Copilot. We learned that when writing prompts for a good outcome, it is essential to tell as accurately as possible step by step what you want AI to do. Attention was also paid to the risks and ethics of using artificial intelligence (no sensitive data, copyright issues considered, bias and discrimination to be prevented, responsibility always on humans). A fun workshop where time flew by.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I attended two workshops because I wanted to see more oral presentations this time. Tuulevi has already summarized the workshops run by Mala Mann<\/strong> and the Dutch, which I also participated in. Let it be said that we were in different groups in the workshops, which gave us our own experiences of participation and did not just talk to each other.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this section, I could mention the Continuing Education Course (CEC) that I attended before the beginning of the EAHIL Workshop. Each year, these CECs are held in conjunction with the EAHIL event to help develop hie\/her expertise in one’s own work. This time I took a course called ”Create Data Management Plans more effectively” and it was conducted by Jakub Rusakow<\/strong> from Poland. Jakub presented us with a self-made, structured and dynamic DMP, or data management plan template, which he uses in his work with researchers in data support. We were able to fill in and try the template ourselves and it worked fine, but the only challenging thing was that when DMP downloaded as a docx version out of the system, the number of pages was up to five times higher than when there were only free text fields in DMP. The number of pages is a challenge, especially for those DMPs that are intended for funders, because they usually have precise page limits that must not be exceeded.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was there anything that you would have preferred to replace with something else?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think I managed to choose the sessions that were the right ones for me. On the other hand, I don’t know what I missed. My program had an appropriate ratio of listening to oral presentations and more active participation in workshops. Maybe Taisa and I could have better coordinated our choices, because now we hit some same ones.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had already decided after the previous year that I would now listen to more oral presentations, so I chose first those sessions based on the presentation topics and then the workshops that I had time to attend. Tuulevi and I attended the same workshops, but I’m sure we both got good insights and inspiration for our work as separate individuals.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you want to mention something about the social program?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuulevi: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141\u00f3d\u017a is an old textile industrial town with many large red brick factory buildings that are now in other use or empty. Such is also the Andels Vienna House, where a workshop was held in the conference section, and where many participants stayed (we did not). On Wednesday, the welcome reception, however, took place in a factory plastered white, unlike the others, which is now a textile museum<\/a> and called the White Factory. We got a chance to mingle and could participate in a guided tour of the museum or explore it on our own.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taisa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The social program was, once again, nicely constructed. The only thing to consider on Thursday was whether it was worth taking a guided city tour, as it was just before gala dinner. We didn’t take the tour because we wouldn’t have time to swoon before dinner at all. The gala dinner itself was held in the same large Ball Room hall as e.g. keynote presentations. The hall had been transformed with dinner tables and with great atmosphere and, most importantly, with a dance floor and a place for a DJ. Although the food was delicious, the wait was rewarded when we got to dance together and have fun at the end of dinner. The Dutch seemed to have the most representatives on the dance floor and the DJ knew how to keep the audience happy while playing the famous Dutch Eurovision song Europapa. Of course, not everyone cares so much about dancing, but I would argue that it is quite nice to follow us dancers from the table as well. (Tuulevi cofirms this.)<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What else would you like to tell?<\/strong><\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141\u00f3d\u017a is a beautiful and somewhat contradictory city. And here I mean contradictory in a positive way. Next to each other there may be new and old buildings and on the other hand the old buildings have been nicely restored. Wall murals adorn the streetscape and between houses you may suddenly get to admire the fine floral arrangements or the mirror house or see when a local TV company shoots an advertisement in which Vikings travel by taxi. It should also be mentioned that the statue of Mi\u015b Uszatek (a cartoon of a teddy bear) brought up nostalgic childhood memories.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to mention that the Finnish representation was excellent. A total of nine Finns participated in the workshop: in addition to us, two from the Turku University Library, one from the Helsinki University Library, one from the Diakonia University of Applied Sciences Library, one from Orion Pharma Pharmaceutical Information Centre and two from the company Sotevirtuaalikirjasto.
