Kirjoitin ensimm\u00e4isen blogitekstini kirjaston blogiin, kun olin toiminut harjoittelijana melkein kaksi viikkoa. Nyt harjoittelun viimeinen viikko l\u00e4hestyy loppuaan. Kahteen kuukauteen on mahtunut paljon. Olen oppinut mielett\u00f6m\u00e4n m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n uusia asioita tieteellisen kirjaston toiminnasta. Harjoittelun aikana sain tiet\u00e4\u00e4, millaisia ty\u00f6teht\u00e4vi\u00e4 tieteellisess\u00e4 kirjastossa on, ja millaisia ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4t t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 ovat. Ennen harjoittelua ajattelin, ett\u00e4 kirjastossa ty\u00f6skentelee vain muutama ihminen samaan aikaan: suurin osa ty\u00f6ajasta kuluisi asiakaspalvelutiskill\u00e4 ja hyllytt\u00e4ess\u00e4. Huomaan nyt olleeni v\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ss\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jokaisella viikolla oli jokin teema, johon minut perehdytettiin. Ensimm\u00e4isell\u00e4 viikolla k\u00e4ytiin l\u00e4pi yliopistoon ja kirjastoon liittyvi\u00e4 asioita yleisell\u00e4 tasolla. Minut tutustutettiin kirjaston tiloihin, ty\u00f6skentelyyn vaadittavat laitteet ja ohjelmat laitettiin kuntoon, p\u00e4\u00e4sin kuulemaan ja lukemaan itsen\u00e4isesti kirjaston viestinn\u00e4st\u00e4, sek\u00e4 minulle ohjeistettiin Alman (kirjastoj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4) sek\u00e4 UEF-Primon k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4. Tapasin my\u00f6s uudet ty\u00f6kaverini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toinen viikko keskittyi aiheensa puolesta avoimeen tieteeseen ja tutkimukseen sek\u00e4 avoimeen oppimiseen. Jo t\u00e4ss\u00e4 kohtaa aloin paremmin ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 kirjasto tekee hyvin t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ty\u00f6t\u00e4 avoimen tieteen ja tutkimuksen parissa, sek\u00e4 tarjoaa paljon oppimateriaalia maksutta kaikkien k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n. Oli mahtavaa p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 kuulemaan alan tekij\u00f6ilt\u00e4 tarkemmin heid\u00e4n ty\u00f6st\u00e4\u00e4n ja mit\u00e4 kaikkea siihen kuuluu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samalla viikolla vierailin vapaakappalevarastossa<\/a> t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 Joensuussa. Vierailu oli yksi lempiasioistani harjoittelun aikana. Kirjojen, lehtien ja muun aineiston m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 varastolla on k\u00e4sitt\u00e4m\u00e4t\u00f6n, ja aineistoa tulee jatkuvasti lis\u00e4\u00e4. Suosittelen ehdottomasti hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n vapaakappaleaineistoa niin opiskelussa kuin vapaa-ajallakin. Aineistoa voi tilata UEF-Primo<\/a>n tai erillisen lomakkeen<\/a> kautta, ja lukea maksutta kirjaston tiloissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My\u00f6hemmin samalla viikolla p\u00e4\u00e4sin k\u00e4ym\u00e4\u00e4n my\u00f6s Kuopion kampuskirjastossa. Vierailin samalla reissulla my\u00f6s KYSin tieteellisess\u00e4 kirjastossa. Oli mukavaa p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 tapaamaan Kuopiossa ty\u00f6skentelevi\u00e4 kollegoita muutenkin kuin vain Teamsin kautta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seuraava viikko piti sis\u00e4ll\u00e4\u00e4n opetus- ja tietopalvelujen sek\u00e4 tutkimuksen tuen esittelyn. Opin, mit\u00e4 kaikkea kirjaston opetuspalveluihin sis\u00e4ltyy, ja millaisia palveluja kirjasto tarjoaa opiskelijoille. Kirjasto kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 ja pit\u00e4\u00e4 opiskelijoille monenlaisia tiedonhaun kursseja. Hyv\u00e4st\u00e4 tietojenhakutaidosta on paljon hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 opiskelijalle. Kirjasto tekee arvokasta ty\u00f6t\u00e4, jotta jokainen meist\u00e4 oppisi taitavaksi tiedonhakijaksi. Tuolla viikolla oli my\u00f6s hyvin mielenkiintoinen ja ajankohtainen perehdytys teko\u00e4lyn k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 tieteellisen tiedon hakemisessa. Olenkin nyt viime aikoina kokeillut erilaisia teko\u00e4lyj\u00e4 tiedonhaussa ja vertaillut niiden antamia hakutuloksia kesken\u00e4\u00e4n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sitten olivat vuorossa asiakaspalvelu, tietoaineistopalvelut, verkko- ja julkaisupalvelut sek\u00e4 kirjaston hallinto. P\u00e4\u00e4sin ty\u00f6skentelem\u00e4\u00e4n kollegoiden kanssa asiakaspalvelutiskill\u00e4, ja n\u00e4kem\u00e4\u00e4n konkreettisesti vastaantulevia asiakaspalvelutilanteita. Kirjastoj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4 Alma tuli k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n harjoittelun my\u00f6t\u00e4 tutummaksi. P\u00e4\u00e4sin my\u00f6s harjoittelemaan kaukopalvelussa toimimista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minut perehdytettiin aineiston hankintaan, saapuvan aineiston k\u00e4sittelyyn ja kokoelmien sek\u00e4 sarjajulkaisujen k\u00e4sittelyyn. Parasta oli ehdottomasti se, ett\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4sin tekem\u00e4\u00e4n paljon asioita my\u00f6s itse. Koen sen auttaneen uuden tiedon sis\u00e4ist\u00e4misess\u00e4 ja ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misess\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viimeisell\u00e4 kokonaisella viikolla minulle esiteltiin kirjaston hallintoa. Oli mielenkiintoista p\u00e4\u00e4st\u00e4 kuulemaan my\u00f6s asioista, jotka tuntuivat kaikista vieraimmilta. Viimeinen viikko yhdisti hienosti kaikki langat ymm\u00e4rrett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi kokonaisuudeksi. Kaiken t\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi ty\u00f6stin koko harjoittelun ajan avoimeen oppimiseen liittyv\u00e4\u00e4 materiaalia Open Education Week<\/a>i\u00e4 varten, joka j\u00e4rjestet\u00e4\u00e4n 3.-7.3.2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En ole koskaan p\u00e4\u00e4ssyt tutustumaan kerralla niin moneen ihmiseen kuin t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4. Ehdottomasti parasta on ollut se, miten hyvin kaikki ottivat minut vastaan heti ensimm\u00e4isist\u00e4 p\u00e4ivist\u00e4 l\u00e4htien. Oloni oli tervetullut, ja koin kuuluvani ty\u00f6porukkaan. Saimme aikaan hyvi\u00e4 ja mielenkiintoisia keskusteluja, p\u00e4\u00e4sin kuulemaan kirjaston palveluista ja arjesta ohjausten ja kokousten merkeiss\u00e4, hyllytin itsen\u00e4isesti sek\u00e4 ty\u00f6kavereiden kanssa ja ennen kaikkea p\u00e4\u00e4sin kasvattamaan tiet\u00e4myst\u00e4ni tieteellisest\u00e4 kirjastosta. Viihdyin t\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 tosi hyvin, ja onkin harmi l\u00e4hte\u00e4 jo pois. Harjoittelun kautta sain lopullisen varmistuksen sille, ett\u00e4 kirjasto on se paikka, jonne haluan valmistumisen j\u00e4lkeen t\u00f6ihin. Aika n\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4, onko suuntana yleinen vai tieteellinen kirjasto. T\u00e4m\u00e4 harjoittelu oli kokemuksena mahtava, ja tulen vaalimaan t\u00e4\u00e4lt\u00e4 saatuja oppeja ja muistoja l\u00e4mm\u00f6ll\u00e4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wrote my first blog post on the library’s blog after I had been an intern for almost two weeks. Now the last week of internship is coming to an end. Two months have been filled with a lot of things. I have learned an incredible number of facts about the operation of the scientific library. During the internship, I learned what kind of work tasks belongs to a scientific library and what working days are like. Before the internship, I thought that there were only a few people working in the library at the same time: most of the working time would be spent at the customer service desk and shelving. I realise now that I was wrong.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a theme for every week from which I got orientation. During the first week, matters related to the university and library were discussed on a general level. I was introduced to the library facilities, the equipment and software required for my work were put in order, I was able to hear and read independently about the library’s communications, and I was instructed on Alma (library management system) and UEF Primo.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second week focused on open science and research as well as open learning. Already at this point, I began to understand better that the library does very important work in open science and research and offers a lot of educational materials for free. It was great to be able to hear more about their work and everything it involves. <\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same week, I visited the legal deposit collection<\/a> unit here in Joensuu. The visit was one of my favourite things during the internship. The number of books, magazines and other materials in the warehouse is unimaginable, and more material is constantly being added. I recommend using the material both in studies and in your free time. The material can be ordered through UEF Primo<\/a> or a separate form<\/a> and read free in the library’s premises. <\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later that week, I also visited the Kuopio campus library. On the same trip, I visited the KUH (Kuopio University Hospital) medical library. It was nice to meet colleagues working on the Kuopio campus.

The following week included a presentation of teaching and information services and research support. I learned what the library’s teaching services include and what kind of services the library offers to students. The library develops and organises a wide range of information retrieval courses for students. Information retrieval skills are a very important for every student. The library does valuable work so that each of us learns to be a great information seeker. On the same week there was also a very interesting and topical meeting on the use of artificial intelligence in the search for scientific information. Recently, I have been testing different artificial intelligence tools in information retrieval and comparing the search results they provide.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next in my programme there was customer service, information material services, online and publishing services, and library administration. I was able to work with colleagues at the customer service desk and observe different customer service situations. I also became more familiar with Alma through practical training. I also got to practice things related to interlibrary loans. <\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was introduced to the acquisition of materials, the processing of incoming materials, and the processing of collections and serials. The best thing was that I got to do a lot of things myself. I feel that it helped me to internalize and understand new information.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last full week of the internship I got to learn about library administration. It was interesting to hear about things that seemed most foreign to me. The last week nicely connected all the threads into an understandable whole. In addition to all this, throughout the internship I worked on open learning-related material for Open Education Week<\/a>, which will be held on 3-7 March 2025.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve never got to know so many people at once as in here. The absolute best thing has been how greatly everyone welcomed me from the very first days. I felt I really belonged to a work team. We had good and interesting discussions, I was able to hear about the library’s services and everyday life through guidance and meetings, shelved independently and with colleagues and above all, increase my knowledge of the scientific library. I really enjoyed my time here, and it’s a shame to leave already. Through the internship, I received final confirmation that the library is the place where I want to work after my studies. Time will tell whether the direction is a municipal or a scientific library. This internship was a great experience, and I will cherish the learned things and memories with warmth.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n
