This text is a part of a series of blog posts in which the University of Eastern Finland Library staff describe their ordinary days at work. The intention of the series is to illustrate the different tasks and responsibilities involved in present day academic libraries.<\/bdo><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m Farheen E Sehar, the very first UEF trainee<\/a> at the UEF Library on the Kuopio campus. I provide library tours and promote its services at student events and on social media. I create engaging materials to encourage student interaction with library resources.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday 24 September 2024\u00a0was one of those days when everything seemed to flow smoothly. Before heading to the office, I stopped by a shop to pick up something for my morning coffee. When I reached the office,\u00a0one of my colleagues had kindly prepared coffee for everybody. This added a warm and thoughtful touch to the morning.\u00a0\u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I sipped my coffee, I found myself in an interesting conversation with\u00a0another colleague about the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are one of those things that remind you of the beauty and wonder in the world. It was a refreshing way to kick off my morning. Once the conversation wrapped up, it was time to get into work mode.\u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same moment, the Director of the Library, Ari Muhonen, arrived from Joensuu to meet with us. He usually comes to meetings and to check in with the team. I really appreciate that UEF has introduced a convenient bus service that runs every Thursday between campuses. However, on this day, Ari drove his own car.\u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I began editing the video for my recent project at the UEF Library. With that task completed, I turned my attention to publishing the highlights on our Instagram about a study tour and an introduction to the library and its services for a group of students of biomedicine.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During my lunch hour, I spent some time completing a jigsaw puzzle with some colleagues. Taking a proper break, even with a bit of puzzle solving, helps me stay focused and energized for the rest of the day.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch, I received a notification about my meeting with\u00a0my supervisors for a checkpoint. I realized I\u00a0had forgotten to complete an assignment about the UEF brand manual. In a rush, I read the manual and completed the assignment with good scores. I was confident I would get the highest score anyway since there was no competition. Just me against myself! We went over the assignment, my action plans, and the induction checklist. It was a productive session.\u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I had a visit to the IT service desk. I needed to install some essential software, including Audacity, which would be helpful for my forthcoming task. \u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One library staff member had brought a lovely surprise of four different kinds of apples from the marketplace in the city centre, for us to enjoy during our coffee break. One of the apples was red also inside. It\u2019s moments like these that remind you to appreciate the small things.\u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the final tasks of the day was to write an email to IT support. I had to ask for access to the studio I would need in the next few days. The IT team was incredibly helpful, as always. \u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With everything in order, I checked my calendar for the next day and decided it was time to wrap up and head home around 4:30 p.m.\u00a0<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olen Farheen E Sehar, ensimm\u00e4inen UEF Trainee -ohjelman<\/a> harjoittelija Kuopion kampuskirjastossa. J\u00e4rjest\u00e4n kirjastokierroksia ja markkinoin kirjastopalveluja opiskelijatapahtumissa ja sosiaalisessa mediassa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiistaina 24.9.2024 kaikki sujui mainiosti. Kun tulin ty\u00f6paikalle, yksi kollegoistani oli huomaavaisesti keitt\u00e4nyt kahvia kaikille. Kirjaston johtaja Ari Muhonen saapui Joensuusta tapaamaan meit\u00e4, kuten yleens\u00e4 tiistaisin. Siemaillessani kahvia keskustelin yhden ty\u00f6kaverin kanssa revontulista. Sen j\u00e4lkeen oli hyv\u00e4 siirty\u00e4 ty\u00f6moodiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aamup\u00e4iv\u00e4ll\u00e4 editoin videota \u00e4skett\u00e4isest\u00e4 projektistani sek\u00e4 julkaisin kirjaston Instagramissa kohokohtia kirjastokierroksesta ja kirjaston palveluiden esittelyst\u00e4 biol\u00e4\u00e4ketieteen opiskelijoille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lounastauon aikana k\u00e4ytin hieman aikaa kirjastolaisten yhteisen palapelin viimeistelyyn yhdess\u00e4 muutaman kollegan kanssa. Kunnon tauon pit\u00e4minen, kuten vaikkapa palapelin kokoaminen, auttaa minua pysym\u00e4\u00e4n keskittyneen\u00e4 ja energisen\u00e4 loppup\u00e4iv\u00e4n ajan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lounaan j\u00e4lkeen kalenterini ilmoitti viikoittaisesta tilannekatsaustapaamisestani ohjaajieni kanssa. Huomasin, ett\u00e4 olin unohtanut tehd\u00e4 yliopiston br\u00e4ndik\u00e4sikirjaa koskevan perehtymisteht\u00e4v\u00e4n. Kiireess\u00e4 luin k\u00e4sikirjan ja tein teht\u00e4v\u00e4n. Tapaamisessa k\u00e4vimme vastaukseni l\u00e4pi, puhuimme yliopiston br\u00e4ndist\u00e4 ja viestint\u00e4tyylist\u00e4 sek\u00e4 seuraavista teht\u00e4vist\u00e4ni ja viimeistelimme perehdytykseni tarkistuslistan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iltap\u00e4iv\u00e4n kahvitauolle yksi kollegoista oli ostanut torilta yll\u00e4tykseksi erilaisia omenoita, joista yksi oli sis\u00e4lt\u00e4kin punainen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olin aiemmin p\u00e4iv\u00e4ll\u00e4 vieraillut IT-tuen palvelupisteess\u00e4 pyyt\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 apua ohjelmistoasennukseen. Iltap\u00e4iv\u00e4ll\u00e4 huomasin tarvitsevani apua toisessakin asiassa, joten kirjoitin s\u00e4hk\u00f6postia IT-tuelle. Pyysin p\u00e4\u00e4sy\u00e4 studioon, jota tarvitsisin l\u00e4hip\u00e4ivin\u00e4. IT-tuki oli avulias, kuten aina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kun kaikki oli kunnossa, tarkistin seuraavan p\u00e4iv\u00e4n kalenterini ja l\u00e4hdin kotiin noin kello 16.30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
