N\u00e4ihin kysymyksiin kirjastolla on tarjolla koulutusta ja oppimateriaalia, ja aineistonhallinnan kiperiinkin kysymyksiin vastaa UEF Datatuki. Tohtoriopiskelijoiden tai tutkijanuralle t\u00e4ht\u00e4\u00e4vien graduntekij\u00f6iden kannattaa suunnitella viett\u00e4v\u00e4ns\u00e4 Joensuussa elokuun alun viel\u00e4 kes\u00e4iset pari viikkoa. 5.\u201316.8.2024 on nimitt\u00e4in tarjolla ainutlaatuinen aineistonhallintaa ja tutkimusmenetelmi\u00e4 yhdist\u00e4v\u00e4 5 op:n opintojakso Mastering the research data \u2013 Tutkimusaineisto haltuun!<\/a> Opintojakso on UEF Summer Schoolin opetustarjonnassa, ja sille ovat tervetulleita my\u00f6s muut kuin UEFin opiskelijat (ulkopuolisille opintojakso on maksullinen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opintojakso pohjautuu aineistonhallinnan keskeisiin teemoihin. Siell\u00e4 k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n kaikki tutkimusaineiston hallinnan vaiheet ja tarjotaan esimerkkej\u00e4 eri tieteenaloilta ja aineistotyypeist\u00e4. Alustajina kuullaan eri alojen tutkijoita geenitutkimuksesta someaineistoihin ja rekisteritutkimukseen. Vastuuopettajina ovat kirjaston datanhallinnan tietoasiantuntijat, joilla kaikilla on k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n kokemusta tutkijan arjesta eri aloilta. Aineistonhallintaa tarkastellaan siten tutkimuksen arjen k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6iss\u00e4 sek\u00e4 tutkimusmenetelmien ja -kysymysten n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Kurssilla keskustellaan, tehd\u00e4\u00e4n t\u00f6it\u00e4 yksin ja ryhmiss\u00e4, saadaan vertaistukea, jaetaan hyvi\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4nteit\u00e4 tieteenalarajat ylitt\u00e4en. Konkreettisena lopputuotoksena kurssilaiset p\u00e4\u00e4sev\u00e4t tekem\u00e4\u00e4n posterin, josta on varmasti hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 my\u00f6s kurssin j\u00e4lkeen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tutkimusaineistonhallinnan perusteet \u2013 Basics of research data management<\/bdo>: lyhenteille kyyti\u00e4<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Opintojakson englanninkielinen nimi kertoo lyhenteen RDM merkityksen: Basics of Research Data Management<\/bdo> eli suomeksi Tutkimusaineistonhallinnan perusteet<\/a>. Opintojakso on suunnattu UEFin tohtoriopiskelijoille, ja sen voi suorittaa omaan tahtiin lukuvuoden aikana verkossa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opintojaksolla perehdyt\u00e4\u00e4n tutkimusaineiston m\u00e4\u00e4rittelyyn ja laatuun aineistonhallinnan n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, eettisiin ja juridisiin seikkoihin, tutkimusaineiston tallennukseen tutkimuksen aikana sek\u00e4 sen avaamiseen ja s\u00e4ilytt\u00e4miseen tutkimuksen j\u00e4lkeen. Opintojakso selvent\u00e4\u00e4, mit\u00e4 aineistonhallinta on ja miksi se on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4. Siell\u00e4 pohditaan, mit\u00e4 FAIR-periaatteet ovat ja miten niit\u00e4 voi toteuttaa, ts. miten tutkimusaineisto tehd\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00f6ydett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi (Findable), saavutettavaksi (Accessible), yhteentoimivaksi (Interoperable) ja uudelleenk\u00e4ytett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi (Reusable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opintojaksosta j\u00e4\u00e4 k\u00e4teen my\u00f6s eritt\u00e4in hy\u00f6dyllinen ja t\u00e4rke\u00e4 dokumentti, aineistonhallintasuunnitelma eli DMP (Data Management Plan), joka l\u00e4ht\u00f6kohtaisesti pit\u00e4isi laatia tutkimussuunnitelman liitteeksi. Opiskelija saa aineistonhallintasuunnitelmastaan henkil\u00f6kohtaisen kirjallisen palautteen, mit\u00e4 voi sitten hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 tutkimuksen kuluessa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opintojakso on osa UEF Tohtorikoulun vapaavalintaisia opintoja (laajuus 1 op), ja sen voi suorittaa suomeksi tai englanniksi. Ilmoittautuminen lukuvuodelle 2024\u201325 aukeaa elokuussa. Tutkimusaineistonhallinnan perusteet<\/a> -oppimateriaali on kaikille avoin ja l\u00f6ytyy kirjaston sivuilta. Oppimateriaalia voi hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4, vaikka opintojaksolle ei osallistuisikaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aineistonhallinta muiden opintojaksojen osana<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Basics of Open and Responsible Science<\/bdo> (2 op) tutustuttaa avoimeen tieteeseen sek\u00e4 julkaisemisen ett\u00e4 tutkimusaineiston kautta. Englanninkielisell\u00e4 opintojaksolla k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n tutkimusaineistonhallintaa avoimen tieteen ja tutkimuksen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Opiskelija p\u00e4\u00e4see pohtimaan esimerkiksi, mit\u00e4 pit\u00e4isi huomioida jo suunnitteluvaiheessa, miten datan uudelleenk\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 voi toteuttaa tai miten tutkimusdata ja metadata avataan. Opintojakso on suunnattu UEFin tohtoriopiskelijoille ja YUFE-verkoston jatko-opiskelijoille. Basics of Open and Responsible Science<\/a> -oppimateriaali on kaikille avoin ja l\u00f6ytyy kirjaston sivustolta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduntekij\u00f6it\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n ei ole unohdettu. Aineistonhallinta opiskelijalle on osa Tutkielmantekij\u00e4n informaatiotaidot -opintojaksoa (1 op), jossa k\u00e4sitell\u00e4\u00e4n my\u00f6s mm. tiedonhakua, avointa tiedett\u00e4 ja viittausk\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4. Tutkimusaineistonhallintaan liittyv\u00e4 materiaali esittelee aineistonhallinnan perusteet maisterivaiheeseen soveltuvin osin. Kirjaston sivulta l\u00f6ytyy tietoa koko opintojaksosta linkist\u00e4 Tutkielmantekij\u00e4n informaatiotaidot. Aineistonhallinta opiskelijalle<\/a> -oppimateriaali on kaikille avoin ja l\u00f6ytyy kirjaston sivustolta. T\u00e4m\u00e4 opintojakso on toistaiseksi tarjolla vain suomeksi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What should a novice or even an advanced researcher know about data management? What is data management in the first place, and how is it implemented? Does data management only apply to data that are opened and published? And is it ultimately of any use, or is data management just additional work forced on the researcher with its new forms to fill in and officialese to consider?<\/bdo><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The library offers training and learning materials on the topic, and UEF Data Support can answer even the trickiest questions about data management. This blog highlights some of the helpful sources available. In addition, we will tell you about the new course titled \u2018Mastering the research data!\u2019 which we as its course designers are quite excited about.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something new: Mastering the research data! \u2013 Data management from the viewpoint of research methods and questions<\/bdo><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Doctoral students or master\u2019s degree students aiming to pursue a research career are recommended to spend the last couple of summery weeks in Joensuu at the beginning of August. A unique 5 ECTS course combining data management and research methods, Mastering the research data!<\/a>, takes place from the 5th to the 16th of August. The course is part of UEF Summer School and welcomes students outside UEF as well (non-UEF students need to pay a participation fee).<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course is focused on the central themes of data management. It covers all stages of research data management and provides examples from different disciplines and types of data. Topics will be introduced by researchers from different fields, ranging from genetic research to social media and register research. The teachers-in-charge are data management experts of the library, all of whom have practical research experience from different fields. Data management is thus examined through everyday research practices and from the perspective of research methods and questions. During the course, we discuss, work alone and in groups, receive peer support, and share good practices across disciplinary boundaries. The students get to make a poster as the tangible output for the course, and it is sure to be useful afterwards as well.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The application deadline for the course is the 15 of June 2024. Application is possible through this li<\/a>nk<\/a>.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basics of research data management: away with the abbreviations<\/bdo><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The name of this course reveals the meaning of the abbreviation RDM: Basics of Research Data Management. The course is aimed at UEF doctoral students and can be completed at your own pace during the academic year online.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course introduces students to the defining and quality of research data from the perspective of data management, ethical and legal matters, the storage of data during research, as well as opening and storing the data after the research is concluded. The course clarifies what data management is and why it is important. It discusses what FAIR principles are and how they are implemented, i.e., how to make research data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The student will also draft a useful and important document on the course: a data management plan, or DMP (Data Management Plan), which, in principle, should be added as an appendix to the research plan. The student receives personal written feedback on their DMP, which can then be utilised during research.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course is included in the UEF Doctoral school\u2019s optional courses (1 ECTS) and can be taken either in Finnish or in English. Registration for the academic year 2024\u201325 opens in August. The learning material, Basics of Research Data Management<\/a>, is open to everyone and found on the UEF Library website. The learning material can be used even if you don\u2019t plan on attending the course.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research data management as part of other courses<\/bdo><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Basics of Open and Responsible Science (2 ECTS) introduces open science through publishing as well data management. This English language course discusses research data management from the perspective of open science and research. During the course, the students ponder matters such as what things should be considered at the planning stage, how data reuse should be implemented, and how research data and metadata could be opened. The course is aimed at UEF doctoral students and graduate students of the YUFE network. The learning material, Basics of Open and Responsible Science<\/a>, is open for everyone and found on the UEF Library website.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Master\u2019s students are not forgotten either. Data Management for Students is part of the course Information Skills for Master\u2019s students (in Finnish, Tutkielmantekij\u00e4n informaatiotaidot, 1 ECTS), which also covers information retrieval, open science and referencing practices. Although the course is currently only available in Finnish, the learning material on research data management will be published in English in June 2024. It presents the basics of data management as applicable to the master’s phase. You can find information about the entire course on the UEF Library page behind the link Tutkielmantekij\u00e4n informaatiotaidot. The Data Management for Students<\/a> -learning material is open to everyone and found on the UEF Library website (once the English version is published, you will have access to it through the same link).<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The services are produced together with experts in the fields of library, information technology services, legal services, data management, data protection and information security.
