T\u00e4m\u00e4 teksti jatkaa kirjoitussarjaa, jossa It\u00e4-Suomen yliopiston kirjaston ty\u00f6ntekij\u00e4t kertovat tavallisesta ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n. Sarjan tarkoituksena on havainnollistaa nykyp\u00e4iv\u00e4n tieteellisten kirjastojen erilaisia teht\u00e4vi\u00e4 ja vastuita.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ty\u00f6skentelen It\u00e4-Suomen yliopiston kirjastossa nimikkeell\u00e4 erityistietoasiantuntija. Suurin osa ty\u00f6ajastani (70 %) kuluu kirjaston viestinn\u00e4n koordinoimisen ja kehitt\u00e4misen teht\u00e4viss\u00e4 ja loput (30 %) l\u00e4\u00e4ketieteen ja l\u00e4hialojen tietoasiantuntijan teht\u00e4viss\u00e4. Teen monipaikkaty\u00f6t\u00e4 eli ty\u00f6skentelen kolmessa paikassa: Kuopion yliopistollisen sairaalan (KYS) tieteellisess\u00e4 kirjastossa, Kuopion kampuskirjastossa ja kotona eli et\u00e4n\u00e4. Nykyisen kaltainen toimenkuva minulla on ollut vuodesta 2016. Aiemmin olen ty\u00f6skennellyt erilaisissa kirjastoteht\u00e4viss\u00e4 It\u00e4-Suomen yliopistossa, Kuopion yliopistossa sek\u00e4 kaupunginkirjastoissa Kuopiossa ja Savonlinnassa; ja parissa hankkeessakin. Koulutukseltani olen filosofian maisteri yleisest\u00e4 kirjallisuustieteest\u00e4. Tutkintoni osana olen suorittanut informaatiotutkimuksen (silloin nimelt\u00e4\u00e4n kirjastotiede ja informatiikka) aineopinnot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keskiviikkona 20. maaliskuuta 2024 kirjasin Timecon-j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4\u00e4n ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4n alkaneeksi kotona kello 8.13. Koska minulla oli et\u00e4ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4, merkitsin tilani Teamsissa sen mukaisesti. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aloitin p\u00e4iv\u00e4ni kirjautumalla tietokoneelle ja tarkistamalla uudet viestit s\u00e4hk\u00f6postissa, Teamsissa, Viva Engagessa ja Efectess\u00e4 (palveluhallintaj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4, jonne p\u00e4\u00e4tyv\u00e4t palvelus\u00e4hk\u00f6postiosoitteisiin ja lomakkeilla l\u00e4hetyt viestit). S\u00e4hk\u00f6postissa oli pari mainoksen tapaista ja yhden opiskelijan viesti, joka liittyi sovittuun tiedonhaun ohjaustapaamiseen p\u00e4\u00e4si\u00e4isloman j\u00e4lkeen. Efectess\u00e4 tietopalvelun jonossa odotti vain yksi roskaposti, jonka merkitsin hyl\u00e4tyksi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tavalliseen keskiviikkoiseen tapaani kirjauduin sitten Feedbacklyyn, joka on yliopiston verkkosivujen palautej\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4, n\u00e4hd\u00e4kseni, oliko kirjaston sivuista annettu palautetta, johon tulisi reagoida. T\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa sellaista ei ollut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seuraavaksi oli taas kirjauduttava, nyt Siteimprove-ty\u00f6kaluun, joka auttaa parantamaan verkkosivujen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6n laatua. Sen avulla voi l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 sivuilta muun muassa rikkin\u00e4isi\u00e4 linkkej\u00e4, kirjoitusvirheit\u00e4 ja saavutettavuusongelmia. Tarkistin kolme mahdollisesti rikkin\u00e4ist\u00e4 linkki\u00e4 ja korjasin yhden, joka johtui kirjaston sivuilla tehtyjen p\u00e4ivitysten vaikutuksesta yhteen alisivuun. Korjaaminen vaati j\u00e4lleen yhden kirjautumisen, t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa Drupal-j\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4\u00e4n, jolla yliopiston verkkosivut on tehty. Toisesta toimimattomaksi merkityst\u00e4 linkist\u00e4 kilautin kollegalle, jonka kanssa p\u00e4\u00e4dyimme yhdess\u00e4 siihen tulokseen, ettei ohjelman pari viikkoa sitten havaitsema linkki ole en\u00e4\u00e4 rikki. Kolmas risainen linkki johti pois kirjaston sivuilta ja sen kohdesivu oli muuttanut, joten etsin ajantasaisen sivun ja p\u00e4ivitin linkin. Tein vastaavat korjaukset my\u00f6s englanninkielisille sivuille. Korjasin my\u00f6s muutaman suomenkielisten sivujen kirjoitusvirheen, joita ty\u00f6kalu oli l\u00f6yt\u00e4nyt. Siteimprove tuottaa my\u00f6s verkkosivuanalytiikkaa eli esimerkiksi dataa sivuilla liikkumisesta, mutta siihen en t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa paneutunut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirjoitusvirheiden korjaaminen j\u00e4i kesken, sill\u00e4 kirjaston johtoryhm\u00e4n kokous (Teams) alkoi klo 9.30. Toisin kuin johtaja, nelj\u00e4 palvelup\u00e4\u00e4llikk\u00f6\u00e4 ja kaksi henkil\u00f6kunnan edustajaa, en ole johtoryhm\u00e4n j\u00e4sen, mutta osallistun johtoryhm\u00e4n kokouksiin viestinn\u00e4n asiantuntijan roolissani silloin, kun asialistalla on tiedotukseen ja viestint\u00e4\u00e4n liittyvi\u00e4 kohtia. N\u00e4it\u00e4 olivat t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa kirjaston asiakaskyselyn tulokset, niiden k\u00e4sittely ja niist\u00e4 viestiminen sek\u00e4 upouudet Webropol-lomakkeet, joilla ker\u00e4\u00e4mme palautetta vierailijoilta (esim. henkil\u00f6kuntavaihto) ja harjoittelijoilta tavoitteenamme kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 vierailu- ja harjoitteluohjelmiamme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kokous p\u00e4\u00e4ttyi aikataulutettua aiemmin jo kello 10.15, joten tiedotin yll\u00e4 mainituista uusista lomakkeista kirjaston henkil\u00f6kunnan Viva Engage -yhteis\u00f6ss\u00e4, pyysin kollegaa hoitamaan kokouksessa esille tulleen asian ja vastasin toisen kollegan s\u00e4hk\u00f6postiin koskien t\u00e4h\u00e4n blogiin tekeill\u00e4 olevan kirjoituksen toimittamista. Enn\u00e4tin viel\u00e4 ennen lounasta korjata liudan suomenkielisi\u00e4 kirjoitusvirheit\u00e4 kirjaston verkkosivuilta sek\u00e4 pyyt\u00e4\u00e4 kollegaa korjaamaan yhden sivun. Lis\u00e4ksi korjasin yhdell\u00e4 sivulla pieni\u00e4 ep\u00e4johdonmukaisuuksia, joista kollega oli l\u00e4hett\u00e4nyt s\u00e4hk\u00f6postia. Siteimproven havaitsemat englanninkieliset typot j\u00e4iv\u00e4t odottamaan huomista, sill\u00e4 kello 11.30 pidin lounastauon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lounaan j\u00e4lkeen enn\u00e4tin antaa aiemmin mainittujen uusien lomakkeiden muokkausoikeudet kirjaston IT-palveluneuvojille ennen kuin valmistauduin johtamaan puhetta kirjaston viestint\u00e4ryhm\u00e4n Teams-palaverissa, joka alkoi kello 12.30. Kerran kuukaudessa kokoustavaan viestint\u00e4ryhm\u00e4n j\u00e4seni\u00e4 ovat lis\u00e4kseni kirjaston johtaja ja kaikki nelj\u00e4 palvelup\u00e4\u00e4llikk\u00f6\u00e4, ja sille kuuluvat kirjaston viestinn\u00e4n linjaukset, resursointi ja seuranta. Listallamme oli t\u00e4ll\u00e4 kertaa kolme asiaa, joista yksi on vakiokohta, jossa tarkastelemme kirjaston viestint\u00e4suunnitelman toteutumista. Toinen asia liittyi kirjaston toimintasuunnitelmaan asiakasviestinn\u00e4n osalta ja kolmas harjoittelujen vai vaihtojen ohjeistukseen ja dokumentointiin. Palaveri p\u00e4\u00e4ttyi kello 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirjoitin viestint\u00e4ryhm\u00e4n kokouksessa esille tulleesta UEFin mediapankkia koskevasta asiasta s\u00e4hk\u00f6postia ja vastasin muutamaan viestiin sek\u00e4 vilkaisin Efecte\u00e4 ja Viva Engagea. Tarkistin edellisen\u00e4 p\u00e4iv\u00e4n\u00e4 laatimani oman osuuteni kirjaston k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4kyselyn tulosten esittelydiasarjasta, jonka kyselyn toteuttanut ryhm\u00e4 valmistelee perjantaiksi. Silloin kerromme tuloksista kaikille kirjastolaisille. Asiakkaillemme tuloksista kerrotaan t\u00e4ss\u00e4 blogissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pienen taukojumppa- ja banaanitauon j\u00e4lkeen oli p\u00e4iv\u00e4n kolmannen Teams-palaverin vuoro kello 14.15. Olen kahden kollegani kanssa osallistumassa BMF ry:n (Bibliothecarii Medicinae Fenniae, l\u00e4\u00e4ke- ja terveystieteiden sek\u00e4 l\u00e4hialojen kirjasto- ja tietopalveluammattilaisten yhdistys) opintomatkalle Vaasaan, joten sovimme matka-aikatauluista ja majoituksesta sek\u00e4 pyysimme kirjaston matkasihteeri\u00e4 tekem\u00e4\u00e4n meille varaukset. Ty\u00f6skentelemme kaikki kolme Kuopion kampuksen molemmissa kirjastoissa, joten p\u00e4\u00e4dyimme puhumaan my\u00f6s KYSin tieteellisen kirjaston asioista, erityisesti KYSil\u00e4isille tarjottavasta tiedonhaun ja viitteidenhallinnan yms. koulutuksesta, ja kirjoittamaan yhteisen vastauksen saamaamme KYSil\u00e4isten kirjastopalveluita koskevaan s\u00e4hk\u00f6postiviestiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aikataulullisista syist\u00e4 (lue: edellinen palaveri venyi yli aikansa enk\u00e4 huomannut sit\u00e4) peruin, anteeksi pyydellen, p\u00e4iv\u00e4n nelj\u00e4nnen palaverin, jonka oli tarkoitus alkaa kello 15 yhden kollegan kanssa aiheena kirjaston viestinn\u00e4n ty\u00f6pajap\u00e4iv\u00e4n suunnittelu. Onneksi meill\u00e4 oli jo valmiiksi sovittuna toinen palaveri perjantaille. Ty\u00f6paja on sovittu pidett\u00e4v\u00e4ksi 30.5. ja siihen on kutsuttu kirjaston viestinn\u00e4n keskeiset toimijat eli viestint\u00e4ryhm\u00e4, uutishuone (viikoittain palaveeraava ajankohtaisviestinn\u00e4n koordinoija ja toimija), somettajat eli Facebook- ja Instagram-sis\u00e4ll\u00f6ntuottajat sek\u00e4 aineistonostoryhm\u00e4, joka koordinoi kirjaston n\u00e4yttelyit\u00e4 ja muita nostoja kokoelmistamme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palaveeraamisen sijaan luin viel\u00e4 s\u00e4hk\u00f6posteja, joista suurimpaan osaan reagoiminen j\u00e4tin huomiselle tai perjantaille, koska ne eiv\u00e4t olleet kiireellisi\u00e4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

P\u00e4iv\u00e4n viimeisen\u00e4 teht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 kirjoitin t\u00e4m\u00e4n blogikirjoituksen, jota varten olin tehnyt muistiinpanoja pitkin p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4, l\u00e4hetin englanninkielisen version kollegalle kielentarkastukseen ja pyysin kahta muuta kollegaa toimittamaan tekstini ja arvoimaan kuvavalintojani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4ni lopuksi pakkasin tietokoneeni ja muuta tarpeellista reppuun torstain ja perjantain kampusp\u00e4ivi\u00e4 varten ja kirjauduin ulos kello 17.15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I work at the University of Eastern Finland Library as a Senior Information Specialist. Most of my working time (70%) is spent on coordinating and developing communications at the library, and the rest (30%) is spent on working as information specialist in medicine and related fields. I work in three locations: Kuopio University Hospital (KUH) Medical Library, Kuopio Campus Library and at home. I have had this job description since 2016. In the past, I have worked in various library positions at the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Kuopio, and in city libraries in Kuopio and Savonlinna, and in a couple of projects as well. I am a Master of Arts in Comparative Literature. As part of my degree, I have completed the intermediate studies of Information Science (then called Library Science and Informatics).<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, I logged in to Timecon Worktime from home at 8.13 a.m. Since I had a remote workday, I marked my status in Teams accordingly.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I started my day by logging in to my computer and checking new messages in email, Teams, Viva Engage, and Efecte (service management system that collects messages from service email addresses and forms). The emails included a couple of advertisements and one student\u2019s message related to the agreed information retrieval guidance meeting after Easter holidays. In Efecte, the information service queue only had one spam message waiting, which I marked as rejected.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As usual on Wednesdays, I then logged in to Feedbackly, a feedback system on the university website, to see if there was any feedback regarding the library website that required actions. This time there were none.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, I signed up for Siteimprove, a tool that helps improve the quality of website content. It can be used to find broken links, typographical errors, and accessibility problems, among other things. I checked three potentially broken links and fixed one caused by updates on the library’s website on a subpage. The repair required another login, this time to the Drupal system with which the university’s website was created. I called my colleague about another inoperable link, and we concluded that the link detected by the program a couple of weeks ago was no longer broken. A third tangled link led the users away from the library pages and the target had moved, so I searched for an up-to-date page and updated the link. I also made similar corrections to the English pages having started with the Finnish ones. I also corrected a few spelling errors in the English pages that the tool had found. Siteimprove also produces website analytics, i.e., data on website navigation, but I did not focus on that this time.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did not manage to correct all spelling errors, as the library management team meeting (Teams) began at 9.30 a.m. Unlike the director, four service heads and two staff representatives, I am not a member of the management team, but I attend the meetings of the management team in my role as a communications expert when there are items on the agenda related to information and communication. These included the library’s customer survey results, their processing and communication, and brand new Webropol forms to collect feedback from visitors (e.g., staff exchange) and trainees with the aim of developing our visiting and internship programs.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting ended earlier than scheduled at 10.15 a.m., so I informed about the above-mentioned forms in the Viva Engage community of the library staff, asked a colleague to take care of a matter raised at the meeting, and responded to another colleague’s email regarding the editing of a post for this blog. I still had time before lunch to fix a bunch of Finnish spelling errors on the library’s website and to ask a colleague to fix a certain page. I also corrected some inconsistencies on a webpage that a colleague had emailed me about. The English typos detected by Siteimprove had to wait, as at 11.30 a.m. I had my lunch break.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch, I had time to grant editing rights of the previously mentioned new forms to the library’s IT service advisors before preparing to be the chairperson at the library’s communications group\u2019s meeting, which began at 12.30 p.m. In addition to me, the library director and all four service heads are members of the communications group that meets once a month. The group manages the library’s communications policies, resourcing, and monitoring. There were three things on our agenda this time, one of which was the standard point where we look at the implementation of the library’s communication plan. The second issue was related to the library’s action plan in terms of customer communications, and the third related to instructions and documentation for internships or exchanges. The meeting ended at 1 p.m.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wrote an email about the UEF media bank issue that came up at the meeting of the communications group, responded to a few messages, and looked at Efecte and Viva Engage. I checked my own part (created on Tuesday) of the presentation slide series of the library user survey results, which the group that conducted the survey prepares for Friday. We will then report the results to the library staff. Our clients will be informed of the results on this blog.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a short exercise and banana break, it was time for the third Teams meeting of the day at 2.15 p.m. My two colleagues and I will be attending a study trip to Vaasa, organized by BMF (Bibliothecarii Medicinae Fenniae, the Finnish Association of Library and Information Service Professionals in Medicine and Health Sciences and Related Fields), so we agreed on travel schedules and accommodation, and asked the library’s travel secretary to make reservations for us. We all work in both libraries on the Kuopio campus, so we also ended up talking about matters related to the KUH medical library, especially information retrieval and reference management training, and writing a joint response to an email regarding the KUH library services.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For scheduling reasons (read: the previous meeting stretched over time, and I did not notice it) I cancelled, apologising, the fourth meeting of the day, which was supposed to start at 3 p.m. with one colleague on planning the library’s communications workshop. Fortunately, we already had another meeting scheduled for Friday. The workshop will be on 30th May, and the key actors in the library’s communications \u2013 the communications group, newsroom (coordinator and operator of topical communications that gathers weekly), social media content providers (Facebook and Instagram), and the book display group, which coordinates the library’s exhibitions and other picks from our collections \u2013 have been invited.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In place of the cancelled meeting, I read more emails, most of which I left for tomorrow or Friday because they were not urgent.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the day, I wrote this blog post for which I had taken notes throughout the day, sent the English version to a colleague for a language check and asked two other colleagues to edit my text and judge my image choices.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of my working day, I packed my computer and other necessities into a backpack for campus days on Thursday and Friday, and checked out at 5.15 p.m.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n
