T\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna kansainv\u00e4lisen avoimen tieteen viikon<\/a> (23.\u201329.10.2023) teemana on Yhteis\u00f6 ennen kaupallistamista<\/strong> (Community over Commercialization<\/bdo>). Olen se tyyppi, joka tulee aina hieman j\u00e4lkijunassa tekniikan kehityksen suhteen, joten rohkaisen nyt mieleni ja kysyn teko\u00e4lylt\u00e4 (ChatGPT), mit\u00e4 se tiet\u00e4\u00e4 aiheesta. Tiivist\u00e4en vastaus on t\u00e4m\u00e4:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community over Commercialization<\/bdo> -ilmaisu viittaa siihen, ett\u00e4 yhteis\u00f6n hyvinvointi ja tarpeet asetetaan etusijalle ennen kaupallisia tarkoitusperi\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 periaate voi korostua esimerkiksi seuraavissa yhteyksiss\u00e4:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Tutkimuksen avoimuus: Tieteellinen tutkimus perustuu avoimuuteen ja tietojen jakamiseen yhteis\u00f6ss\u00e4. ”Yhteis\u00f6 ennen kaupallistamista” voi ilmet\u00e4 avoimen tieteen periaatteena, jossa tutkijat jakavat tuloksiaan, tietojaan ja menetelmi\u00e4\u00e4n avoimesti muiden tutkijoiden ja yhteis\u00f6n k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Avoin julkaiseminen: Tieteellisen tiedon avoin julkaiseminen kaikkien saataville ilman rajoituksia mahdollistaa laajemman yleis\u00f6n p\u00e4\u00e4syn tieteelliseen tietoon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Tutkimuseettisyys: Tutkijat noudattavat eettisi\u00e4 periaatteita ja k\u00e4yt\u00e4nt\u00f6j\u00e4, ja arvioivat tutkimuksensa vaikutuksia yhteis\u00f6ihin ennen kaupallisia intressej\u00e4.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Kansainv\u00e4linen yhteisty\u00f6: Tieteellinen yhteis\u00f6 perustuu usein kansainv\u00e4liseen yhteisty\u00f6h\u00f6n ja tiedonvaihtoon.     Ent\u00e4p\u00e4 sitten se teko\u00e4ly? Omat ajatukset viikon teemaan painottuivat tieteen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmaan, mutta liittyih\u00e4n siihen paljon muutakin. Teko\u00e4lyn k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 j\u00e4i kokemus, ett\u00e4 se voi toimia hyv\u00e4n\u00e4 apuna ideoinnissa. Toisaalta on pakko my\u00f6nt\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 olo on v\u00e4h\u00e4n vilpillinen, kun \u201dajatukset\u201d tulevat valmiina ja itselle j\u00e4i teht\u00e4v\u00e4ksi vain sis\u00e4ll\u00f6n muokkaaminen. Luomisen tuska j\u00e4i siis v\u00e4h\u00e4lle. My\u00f6s k\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4minen sujui n\u00e4pp\u00e4r\u00e4sti. Parhaimmillaan teko\u00e4ly rikastaa ja tehostaa ty\u00f6skentely\u00e4 tai oppimista, mutta tiedon tuottamisen prosessi ottaa aikamoisia oikoteit\u00e4, mik\u00e4 ei v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 aina ole hyv\u00e4 asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This year, during International Open Access Week<\/a> (October 23-29, 2023), the theme is ”Community over Commercialization.” I’m the type of person who always lags a bit behind in keeping up with technological advancements, so I’m now mustering the courage to ask artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) what it knows about the topic. In summary, the answer is this:<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The expression ”Community over Commercialization” refers to prioritizing the well-being and needs of the community over commercial purposes. This principle can be emphasized in the following contexts, for example:<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Research Openness: Scientific research is built on openness and sharing data within the community. ”Community over Commercialization” can manifest as a principle of open science, where researchers openly share their findings, data, and methods for the benefit of other researchers and the community.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Open Access Publishing: Making scientific knowledge openly accessible to everyone without restrictions enables a broader audience to access scientific information.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Research Ethics: Researchers adhere to ethical principles and practices, evaluating the impact of their research on communities before commercial interests.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. International Collaboration: The scientific community often relies on international collaboration and knowledge exchange. For example, online platforms that facilitate collaboration promote cooperation among researchers and the sharing of knowledge.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. Citizen Science: Citizen science encourages community members to participate in scientific research and promote the well-being of their community through the use of information.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    6. Open Source: Software is developed and maintained by communities and volunteers as open-source, rather than being confined to commercial environments.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    7. Education: Teaching and learning prioritize the needs and well-being of learners and communities over pursuing commercial interests. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) represent one example of open learning.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    8. Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Development: The well-being of the environment and local communities takes precedence over economic gain. For instance, opposition to commercial projects that could harm the environment or communities.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    9. Community-Based Development: Development work emphasizes community participation and decision-making in addressing their own needs and progress, rather than external commercial entities dictating development projects.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    10. Civic Engagement: Community involvement in decision-making and influencing their own living environment may involve local consultations and transparent decision-making.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    11. Social Justice: All members of society benefit equitably from resources and opportunities.<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    12. Local Business: Emphasis is placed on local jobs and services to promote community well-being.<\/bdo><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Regarding artificial intelligence, my own thoughts on the theme of the week focused on the scientific perspective, but there’s much more to it. I got the impression from the use of artificial intelligence that it can serve as a valuable tool in brainstorming. On the other hand, I must admit that I feel a bit deceptive when the ”thoughts” come ready-made, leaving me with the task of merely editing the content. The agony of creation was therefore minimal. The translation went smoothly as well. At its best, artificial intelligence enriches and enhances work or learning, but the process of generating knowledge takes some significant shortcuts, which may not always be a good thing.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      But let’s get back to the topic: How could you promote the community and accessibility of science?<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n
