Osallistuin kes\u00e4kuussa 2023 Norjan Trondheimissa EAHIL<\/a>in (European Association for Health Information and Libraries<\/bdo>) ty\u00f6pajaan\/kongressiin<\/a>, jossa terveys- ja l\u00e4\u00e4ketieteellisten kirjastojen ty\u00f6ntekij\u00e4t tapaavat toisiaan vuosittain. Eik\u00e4 pelk\u00e4st\u00e4\u00e4n Euroopan vaan maailmanlaajuisesti, koska paikalla oli osallistujia Yhdysvalloista, Kanadasta ja jopa Australiasta saakka. J\u00e4nnityst\u00e4 oli ilmassa, kun t\u00e4m\u00e4 EAHIL-ensikertalainen saapui Trondheimiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ty\u00f6skentelen sek\u00e4 yliopiston kirjastossa ett\u00e4 siihen kuuluvassa Kuopion yliopistollisen sairaalan tieteellisess\u00e4 kirjastossa. Ty\u00f6nkuvaani kuuluu mm. terveystieteen opiskelijoiden tiedonhaun opetus ja ohjaus, mutta my\u00f6s tutkijoiden tukipalvelut, eritoten tutkimusdatanhallinnan parissa. Kuvittelin EAHIL-workshopin k\u00e4sittelev\u00e4n ainoastaan tiedonhaun puolta, mutta olin onneksi v\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ss\u00e4. Kuinka monia ja hienoja puheita kuulinkaan my\u00f6s tutkimusdatanhallinnan puolelta, kun kirjastojen asiantuntijat esitteliv\u00e4t kehitysty\u00f6t\u00e4\u00e4n datanhallinnan ty\u00f6kalujen parissa. Lis\u00e4ksi min\u00e4kin pidin esitykseni siit\u00e4, kuinka tutkimusdatanhallintaan saisi integroitua perustutkinto-opetukseen mukaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tieteellisten kirjastojen ty\u00f6ntekij\u00e4t ovat todellakin muutosmy\u00f6nteisi\u00e4 agentteja, kuten EAHIL-teemakin t\u00e4n\u00e4 vuonna kertoo. Tieteellisten kirjastojen ty\u00f6nkuva on kokenut suuria muutoksia mennein\u00e4 vuosina; tutkimusdatanhallinnan tukipalvelut ovat kiinte\u00e4 osa t\u00e4m\u00e4n p\u00e4iv\u00e4n kirjastojen osaamista. Muutoksia tapahtuu my\u00f6s tiedonhaun puolella, kun teko\u00e4ly (AI) saapuu n\u00e4kyv\u00e4mmin mukaan prosessiin. Muutosmy\u00f6nteiset agentit tekev\u00e4t t\u00f6it\u00e4 tutustuessaan eri AI-ty\u00f6kaluihin ja n\u00e4kev\u00e4t ne ennemminkin mahdollisuutena kuin uhkana. Lis\u00e4ksi Professori David Lankes Yhdysvaltojen Teksasista piti huikean keynote-puheen (ks. keynote-tallenteet<\/a>), jossa h\u00e4n korosti meid\u00e4n kirjastolaisten roolia nykyaikana siin\u00e4, ett\u00e4 vastuullamme on tarjota luotettavaa ja tasa-arvoa kunnioittavaa materiaalia ja aineistoa kaikelle kansalle. Teemme t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ty\u00f6t\u00e4!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kollegojen tapaaminen ja verkostoituminen on jokaisessa ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ja tunnen olevani etuoikeutettu, kun sain kes\u00e4kuussa tavata sek\u00e4 uusia ett\u00e4 kokeneita EAHIl-k\u00e4vij\u00f6it\u00e4. En voi kyllin korostaa kuinka arvokasta vertaistukea ja -tietoa sain ty\u00f6pajan aikana. Ja kuinka l\u00e4mminhenkisiin ihmisiin sain tutustua. Sain paljon innostusta ja inspiraatiota my\u00f6s omaan arkity\u00f6h\u00f6ni, mik\u00e4 kantaa pitk\u00e4lle talven yli ja siihen hetkeen, kunnes tapaamme j\u00e4lleen Riiassa ensi kes\u00e4kuussa!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Excitement, anticipation, enthusiasm, but also a little bit of fear and stress! The roller coaster of feelings that an EAHIL first timer goes through while attending the workshop in Trondheim<\/a>, Norway. EAHIL <\/a>stands for European Association for Health Information and Libraries. I have been a member for a year now and this was my first time attending their workshop and meeting all the health information specialists around the world. My workplace is at the University of Eastern Finland Library including Kuopio University Hospital Medical Library. In my work, I teach e.g., medical students in information retrieval but also help researchers with research data management. I thought that this EAHIL event would be all about health information retrieval (which would be fine) but I was glad to be wrong. Guidance of research data management has become more and more of a duty of academic libraries, and this was also heavily shown in EAHIL 2023 workshop. I saw some incredible talks about developing tools for research data management, but I also gave my talk about implementing research data management to the education of the undergraduate students.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radical positive change agents! That was the theme of this year’s EAHIL workshop. And that is what the academic and health librarians certainly are: radical positive change agents! For example, let’s take a look at the development of research data management in being a big part of our job nowadays. It’ s a big change, but also, what I think, a positive change. My background is in the research and without research data management duties, I would probably not have been hired to the UEF Library. Secondly, some changes are happening around the world nowadays with artificial intelligence (AI) coming part of everything, including information retrieval. It’s our job to make it a positive change and see it as a possibility, not a thread. Finally, we, the librarians in every library around the world, have the responsibility to offer reliable material e.g., books, journals, articles, without misinformation to our clients. This is something that David Lankes highlighted in his keynote talk. (See keynote recordings<\/a>.)<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How about the mixed feelings that I mentioned in the first sentence? How did I get over the fear and the stress in EAHIL? Fortunately, the first timers also feel very welcome because EAHIL organizes an event for the newbies on the first night of the workshop where you can meet not just others in the same situation but also the experienced board members. Amazing how inspirational it can be to hear the stories on what had happened in EAHIL conferences in the past. Not to mention, to get to know all the other first timers and have fruitful discussions with them. We were joking that we shall be able to praise, let\u2019s say in 20 years from now, that we had our first EAHIL in Trondheim, and we had really warm feelings and memories in order to mentor and welcome the newcomers then, wherever the EAHIL will then take place.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about the feelings afterwards? I feel inspired, satisfied, full of ideas, happy but also physically tired (yet mentally rested). So, turning on the positive side definitely. This workshop brought some positive, radical changes to my work absolutely! How fortunate I am to have this amazing workplace that makes it possible to attend these international events.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n
