Tiedonhaun opintojaksoja on tarjolla kaikissa opintojen vaiheissa: kandidaatinopinnoissa, maisterinopinnoissa ja jatko-opintoissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lukuvuonna 2020\u20132021 toteutettiin tuttuun tapaan yli 30 kandidaatinopintojen tieteenalakohtaista tiedonhaun opintojaksoa. Viime lukuvuonna uutta maisteriopintojen Syvent\u00e4v\u00e4t informaatiotaidot -opintojaksoa pilotoitiin osana Joensuun kampuksen opintotarjontaa, ja t\u00e4n\u00e4 syksyn\u00e4 opintojakso on tarjolla my\u00f6s Kuopion kampuksen opiskelijoille. Jatko-opinnoissa viime lukuvuonna pilotoitiin <bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Basics of Open and Responsible Science<\/bdo> -opintojaksoa ja rakennettiin uutta Tutkimusaineistonhallinnan perusteet -opintojaksoa. Molemmat opintojaksot ovat suoritettavissa t\u00e4n\u00e4 lukuvuonna 2021\u20132022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lukuvuosi 2020\u20132021 kokonaan verkossa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Koronapoikkeustilan vuoksi kirjaston opetus toteutettiin kokonaisuudessaan verkkokursseina, jotka muodostuivat teksti- ja video-oppimateriaaleista, (ennakko)teht\u00e4vist\u00e4 ja et\u00e4opetussessioista. Niin kandidaatin-, maisterin- kuin jatko-opintojenkin opintojaksojen opiskelijapalautteessa kiitosta saivat<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>kattavat, avoimet oppimateriaalit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>havainnolliset opasvideot ja hakuesimerkit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>oman tutkielmaan pohjautuvat teht\u00e4v\u00e4nannot ja opetukset<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>joustavat ja itse aikataulutettavissa olevat kurssitoteutukset sek\u00e4<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>asiantunteva ja ideoita her\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4 opetus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Palautteenantajat pitiv\u00e4t t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 sit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 he oppivat tuntemaan olemassa olevia e-aineistoja, hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tietokantoja, hakusanoja ja tiedonhakutekniikoita, ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tiedonhaun prosessia, suunnitelmallisuutta ja systemaattisuutta, sek\u00e4 saivat varmuutta omaan tiedonhakuunsa. Tiedonhaku koettiin t\u00e4rkeimm\u00e4ksi opituksi asiaksi kaikissa opintojen vaiheissa. Erityisesti jatko-opinnoissa t\u00e4rkeiksi opeiksi nostettiin my\u00f6s viitteidenhallinta, aineistonhallinta, julkaiseminen, tieteen avoimuus ja tutkimuksen n\u00e4kyvyys. Lis\u00e4\u00e4kin opetusta toivottiin tieteellisten, luotettavien tiedonl\u00e4hteiden tunnistamiseen ja tiedon ja tiedonl\u00e4hteiden kriittiseen arviointiin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verkkokurssitoteutuksen katsottiin sopivan hyvin paljolti digitaalisesti saataviin tiedonl\u00e4hteisiin perehtymiseen. Kiitosta saivat kuitenkin my\u00f6s kontaktiopetusosuudet, jotka mahdollistivat reaaliaikaisen vuorovaikutuksen kurssin opettajan ja kurssitoverien kanssa. My\u00f6s teht\u00e4vien palauttamista avoimelle keskustelualueelle kiiteltiin, sill\u00e4 kurssitoverien teht\u00e4vist\u00e4 ja palautteista opittiin paljon. Vuorovaikutuksen ja yhteis\u00f6llisyyden lis\u00e4ksi l\u00e4hiopetuksen arvo nostettiin esille toisestakin n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Tiedonhaun kurssien opiskelijapalautteissa vinkattiin, ett\u00e4 ajankohtainen opastuksen aihe voisi olla itse kirjaston k\u00e4ytt\u00f6: monelle fyysisen kirjan etsiminen kirjastosta saattaa olla uusi kokemus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Verkkokursseilla opittiin my\u00f6s, ett\u00e4 kokonaan verkossa toteutettavallakin opintojaksolla voi olla innostava ilmapiiri:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOpin my\u00f6s, miten hienosti et\u00e4yhteyden v\u00e4lityksell\u00e4 opettaja voi osoittaa kiinnostusta opiskelijoita kohtaan ja opettaa heit\u00e4 kuuntelevalla, kunnioittavalla ja lempe\u00e4ll\u00e4 otteella. Kurssilta j\u00e4i tenttipalautetta my\u00f6ten olo, ett\u00e4 opiskelijan oppimisesta v\u00e4litettiin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Oppia oikeista asioista oikeaan aikaan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Monet kiittiv\u00e4t my\u00f6s mahdollisuutta suorittaa kurssi milloin tahansa opintojen aikana. Perustutkinto-opiskelijoiden tiedonhaun kurssin saa suorittaa valitsemassaan vaiheessa kandidaatinopintoja, vaikka se suositellaankin suoritettavaksi kandidaatintutkielman yhteydess\u00e4. My\u00f6s opiskelijapalautteissa tiedonhaun kurssin suorittamista samaan aikaan kandidaatintutkielman kanssa pidettiin hyv\u00e4n\u00e4 muun muassa siksi, ett\u00e4 kurssi auttoi alkuun ja eteenp\u00e4in tutkielman l\u00e4hteiden etsimisess\u00e4, koko tutkielmassa tai opinnoissa kokonaisuudessaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toisaalta monet perustutkinto-opiskelijat totesivat, ett\u00e4 kurssilla opituille tiedonhakutaidoille olisi ollut tarvetta jo aiemmin, ensimm\u00e4isest\u00e4 opiskeluvuodesta alkaen. Mm. l\u00e4\u00e4ketieteiden opinnoissa tiedonhaun opetusta annetaankin jo ensimm\u00e4isen vuoden opiskelijoille. Kirjasto my\u00f6s pyrkii vastaamaan uusien opiskelijoiden tarpeisiin monin tavoin. Uusien perustutkinto- ja jatkuvan oppimisen opiskelijoiden tiedonhaun osaamista tuetaan orientaatioviikon fyysisill\u00e4 ja virtuaalisilla kirjasto- ja tutorkierroksilla,&nbsp; Digistartti-perehdytykseen ja Akateemisen opiskelun taidot -kurssille sis\u00e4ltyvill\u00e4 kirjaston verkko-oppimateriaaleilla sek\u00e4 kirjaston verkkosivujen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uef.fi\/fi\/kirjasto\/tiedonhaun-pikaopas\">Tiedonhaun pikaoppaalla<\/a>, jota on t\u00e4ksi lukuvuodeksi laajennettu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Verkossa ja kampuksilla<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Koronapoikkeustilan vaatima kirjaston et\u00e4opetus ja ohjaus toteutui sujuvasti ja ongelmitta, sill\u00e4 jo ennen poikkeusaikaa kirjaston oppimateriaalit ja suuri osa opetuksesta oli verkossa. Syksyst\u00e4 2021 lukien keskeinen kehitt\u00e4miskohde on vaihtoehtoisten opetukseen osallistumisen ja opintojaksosuoritusten tapojen kehitt\u00e4minen. Kuten opintojaksopalautteetkin kertoivat, et\u00e4opetustoteutukset ovat varsin pidettyj\u00e4, mutta my\u00f6s l\u00e4hiopetukset ovat arvokkaita vuorovaikutuksen, yhteis\u00f6llisyyden ja oppimisen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, ja tukevat samalla uusien opiskelijoiden kotoutumista yliopistoyhteis\u00f6\u00f6n. Varsinkin ty\u00f6n ohella opiskellessa korostuu ajasta ja paikasta riippumattomien opintojaksojen tarve, ja t\u00e4h\u00e4n tarpeeseen pyrit\u00e4\u00e4n vastaamaan kirjaston opintojaksojen suoritustapojen moninaistamisella. Esimerkkin\u00e4 mainittakoon jatko-opiskelijoille suunnattu Tutkimuksen tiedonhaku ja -hallinta -opintojakso, jota ollaan parhaillaan kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 niin, ett\u00e4 se on suoritettavissa joko kokonaan itsen\u00e4isen\u00e4 verkko-opiskeluna tai osittain pienryhm\u00e4opetuksessa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Koko kirjastolle tervetulleita olivat palautteet siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 kirjaston henkil\u00f6kunta ja palvelut koettiin helposti l\u00e4hestytt\u00e4viksi ja hy\u00f6dyllisiksi:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dT\u00e4m\u00e4n kurssin avulla tuli sellainen tuntuma, ett\u00e4 UEF kirjastoon voi ottaa matalalla kynnyksell\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 tutkimusta tehdess\u00e4 ja apua saa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Juuri t\u00e4h\u00e4n kaikissa UEFin kirjastopalveluissa pyrit\u00e4\u00e4n niin tutkimuksen kuin opiskelunkin tukena. Courses on information retrieval are available at all stages: bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s and postgraduate studies.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As usual, in the academic year 2020\u20132021, over 30 discipline-specific information retrieval courses were carried out in the bachelor\u2019s degree programmes. Last academic year, the new master\u2019s degree course<\/bdo> \u2018Syvent\u00e4v\u00e4t informaatiotaidot\u2019 <bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">(Advanced skills in information searching, arranged in Finnish) was piloted as part of the course offering at the Joensuu campus, and this autumn the course is offered to students at the Kuopio campus. Last academic year in postgraduate studies, the Basics of Open and Responsible Science course was piloted and a new Basics of Research Data Management course was developed. Both courses are available this academic year 2021\u20132022.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Academic year 2020\u20132021 entirely online<\/bdo><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Due to the exceptional circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the library\u2019s teaching was completely carried out as online courses, consisting of text and video learning materials, (pre-)assignments and distance learning sessions. The student feedback on the bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s and postgraduate courses praised<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">the comprehensive, open learning materials<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">illustrative tutorial videos and search examples<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">assignments and lessons based on the student\u2019s own thesis<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">flexible course implementations that leave room for independent scheduling and<\/bdo><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">expert teaching that stimulates ideas.<\/bdo><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The feedback highlighted the importance of learning about existing e-resources and the use of databases, keywords and information retrieval techniques, understanding the process and methodical and systematic nature of information retrieval, and gaining confidence in information retrieval. Information retrieval was perceived as the most important thing learned at all stages of studies. Reference management, data management, publishing, research visibility and Open Science were also highlighted as important lessons, especially in postgraduate studies. More training was requested on how to identify scientific, reliable sources of information and how to critically evaluate information and its sources.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The online course was considered to be well suited for accessing largely digital sources of information. However, praise was also given to the contact teaching sessions, which allowed for real-time interaction with the course teacher and other participants. The submission of assignments to the open discussion platform was also praised, as a lot was learned from the assignments and feedback of the other participants. In addition to interaction and communality, the value of contact teaching was highlighted from another perspective as well. Student feedback on the information retrieval courses suggested that a topical lesson subject could be library use: for many, finding a physical book in a library can be a new experience.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The online courses also taught that even a fully online course can have an inspiring atmosphere:<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI also learned how well a teacher can show interest in the students and teach them with a listening, respectful and gentle approach when teaching remotely. The course, right down to the exam feedback, left me with the feeling that the student\u2019s learning was considered to be important.\u201d<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Learning the right things at the right time<\/bdo><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Many also appreciated the possibility of taking the course at any time during their studies. Undergraduate students may take the information retrieval course at any stage of their bachelor\u2019s studies, although it is recommended that it be taken in conjunction with the bachelor\u2019s thesis. Feedback also indicated that it was good to have the course at the same time as the bachelor\u2019s thesis because the course helped the students get started and move forward in their search for sources, and the thesis itself, and supported their further studies as a whole.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On the other hand, many undergraduate students said that they would have needed the information retrieval skills they learned on the course even earlier, from the first year onwards. I.e. in medical sciences, information retrieval training is given for the first-year students. The library aims to meet the needs of the new students in many ways. The information retrieval skills of new undergraduate and continuous learning students are supported by physical and virtual library and tutor tours during orientation week, the library\u2019s online learning materials included in the Digistartti orientation package and University Study Skills courses, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uef.fi\/en\/library\/quick-guide-for-information-searching\">Quick guide for information searching<\/a> on the library\u2019s website, which has been expanded for this academic year.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Online and on campus<\/bdo><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The library\u2019s remote teaching and guidance required during the state of emergency was smooth and problem-free, as the library\u2019s learning materials and much of the teaching were online even before the pandemic. From autumn 2021 onwards, a key area for development will be the development of alternative ways of participating in teaching and completing courses. As the course feedback indicated, distance learning is well-liked, but contact teaching is also valuable for interaction, communality and learning, and it supports the integration of new students into the university community. Particularly when studying alongside work, the need for courses independent of time and place is emphasised, and efforts are being made to meet this need by diversifying the ways in which the library\u2019s courses can be completed. For example, the Research information retrieval and management course for postgraduate students is currently being developed so that it can either be completed as a fully independent online course or partly taught in small groups.<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The library as a whole appreciated the feedback that the library staff and services were perceived as approachable and useful:<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis course gave me the feeling that I can always contact the UEF Library when doing research, and help is available.\u201d<\/bdo><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><bdo lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is exactly what all UEF library services are aiming for, in support of both research and studies.
