Art and research can walk hand in hand, intertwine, dialogue and explore the same questions. <\/span>The sensory history of Europe and our transforming relations with the environment require both art and science approaches. The sensobiographic method <\/span>walks with<\/span> both1<\/sup><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Art work can <\/span>bring<\/span> research data <\/span>to<\/span> experiential contexts that afford new horizons for reflection <\/span>and<\/span> personal attunement<\/span>s,<\/span> and <\/span>for <\/span>possibilities of noticing thin<\/span>g<\/span>s that tend to remain <\/span>in the shadows<\/span>. <\/span>SENSOTRA\u2019s a<\/span>pproaching conference \u201dUrban-related Sensoria\u201d will publish new art work <\/span>founded on dialogues and <\/span>thought & sound <\/span>experiments between a researcher and two artists:<\/span> Inkeri Aula <\/span>from SENSOTRA<\/span> in cooperation with <\/span>prominent young sound and media artists <\/span>Mark Niskanen and Jani-Matti Salo. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ghost Light is a video installation that has been documented on an empty theater stage. <\/span>It explores the metaphorical notion of ghosts2<\/sup><\/a> of the environment: past lives, fossils, radiation, extinct species and their interconnections \u2013 namely, ghosts of the past \u2013 <\/span>that <\/span>remain with us. <\/span>Traces of more-than-human past <\/span>entangle with both our present and our imagination of the future. <\/span>The art work participates in<\/span> grasping the complexity of atmospheres and social and material mediations present in SENSOTRA\u2019s transgenerational walking data <\/span>by relying on fragments of the walking accounts. <\/span>Yet i<\/span>t becomes something beyond, as a work of its own. <\/span>Awareness of \u201cghosts\u201d questions the notion of human exceptionality in relation to other beings and organisms, revealing <\/span><\/span>our<\/span><\/span> interconnectedness. <\/span><\/span>Ghost Light calls for a<\/span><\/span> time for the human species to coalesce around stories of the more-than-human.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
