Thanks to the FUTE Student Mobility Exchange Programme&nbsp;supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. We&nbsp;spent&nbsp;nearly a&nbsp;month at the University of Namibia (UNAM), Hifikepunye Pohamba (HP) Campus in&nbsp;Ongwediva.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;wasn\u2019t&nbsp;just&nbsp;a&nbsp;trip. It was a powerful bridge connecting classroom theory to real-world sustainable action, fostering collaboration between Tanzania, Namibia, and Finland through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arrival and the Rhythm of Our Month-Long Exchange<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>From the moment we arrived, every day pulsed&nbsp;with purpose. Our schedule twisted&nbsp;together:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insightful academic seminars and lectures&nbsp;cantered&nbsp;on ESD&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Presenting our research proposals and findings to the welcoming FUTE team&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Joining undergraduate and postgraduate classes on ESD pedagogies and gender-responsive teaching&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rich discussions with lecturers, fellow postgraduates, and project experts&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fun social and intercultural events that built lasting connections&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Memorable educational excursions, including an eye-opening visit to Etosha National Park<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-724\" style=\"width:504px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image.png 624w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meeting with the FUTE&nbsp;programme&nbsp;team at UNAM (HP Campus)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inside UNAM HP Campus and Nature Insights<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>What struck us most was UNAM\u2019s deep institutional dedication to sustainability. Classrooms here prioritize participatory learning, critical thinking, inclusivity, and strong community ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standout courses we attended included:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Teaching Pedagogies for Education for Sustainability&nbsp;<\/strong>(Undergraduate level)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gender Equality and Feminism in Science and Mathematics Education<\/strong>&nbsp;(Postgraduate level)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the FUTE project, we&nbsp;witnessed&nbsp;how local teaching practices deliberately align with global goals\u2014especially&nbsp;<strong>SDG 4 (Quality Education)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>SDG 5 (Gender Equality)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One highlight was our excursion to Etosha National Park via King&nbsp;Nehale\u2019s&nbsp;gate. Walking through this iconic landscape gave us tangible lessons in biodiversity conservation, sustainable tourism, and the delicate balance between humans and nature\u2014reinforcing why ESD matters so urgently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"290\" height=\"324\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-725\" style=\"width:290px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-1.png 290w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-1-269x300.png 269w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;A visit to Etosha&nbsp;National Park&nbsp;through King&nbsp;Nehale\u2019s&nbsp;gate<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the Exchange Deepened Our Own Research&nbsp;Journeys<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Zephania&nbsp;Malongo: Sustainable Protein Sources for a Circular Food Future<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My research\u2014 \u201cAssessment of the Effect of Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) as a Protein Source in Chicken Feed\u201d\u2014explores affordable, eco-friendly alternatives to expensive conventional feeds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through an ESD perspective at UNAM:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cognitive gains<\/strong>: Deeper grasp of BSFL biology, nutrition, and sustainability value&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Social-emotional growth<\/strong>: Stronger collaboration, creativity, and sense of responsibility&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Behavioral&nbsp;impact<\/strong>: Promotion of circular economy practices and sustainable agriculture&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The campus discussions and observations helped transform BSFL farming from a theoretical solution into a practical \u201cchange project\u201d addressing feed costs while building resilient food systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"255\" height=\"328\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-727\" style=\"width:312px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-3.png 255w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-3-233x300.png 233w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Mr.&nbsp;Zephania presenting proposal to UNAM staff &amp; Students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Stella Mntambo: Ensuring Clean Water Access for Community Well-Being&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My study\u2014 \u201cAssessment of Quality and Accessibility of Drinking Water at&nbsp;Naitolia&nbsp;Village\u201d\u2014focuses on water security in rural settings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exchange enriched my work with:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practical insights into sustainable water management and long-term community health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hands-on exposure to water quality testing methods&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Community-centered&nbsp;research approaches&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stronger theoretical framing through ESD principles&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Interacting with UNAM scholars helped refine my&nbsp;methodology&nbsp;and heightened the study\u2019s alignment with sustainability goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"498\" height=\"418\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-728\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-4.png 498w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2026\/03\/image-4-300x252.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ms. Stella presenting research findings to UNAM staffs &amp; Students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Personal and Professional Growth: Skills That Will Last a Lifetime<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond research, the programme equipped us with sharper research, analysis, and academic presentation skills, greater confidence in cross-cultural teamwork and adaptability, and renewed appreciation for interdisciplinary, sustainability-driven inquiry. On a personal level, blending study, travel, and cultural exchange cultivated independence, patience, resilience, and a truly global mindset\u2014qualities every sustainability educator and researcher needs. We extend deep gratitude to the funder\u00a0for making this transformative opportunity possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Special thanks to the dedicated FUTE teams at DUCE and UNAM (HP Campus), and especially our supportive supervisors:\u00a0Dr. Lucas Paul, Dr. Alice\u00a0Isibika, Dr. Jared\u00a0Bakuza, and Dr. Olivia John\u00a0Kalokora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also thankful to DUCE and the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) for enabling us to\u00a0represent\u00a0Tanzania on this international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FUTE Student Mobility Exchange was\u00a0far more than an academic trip.
