The event featured distinguished guests, and the theme of the webinar \u201cBuilding Global Education with a Local Perspective\u201d became the guiding principle for all our activities throughout the year. <br><br>Following the launch, we entered the inception phase, laying the strong foundation for a collaborative and inclusive approach. Project leaders and coordinators met at DUCE in Tanzania. This groundwork was crucial, and later, we received heartfelt appreciation from our partners and funder for the strong collaboration we demonstrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-673\" style=\"width:443px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-1152x1536.jpeg 1152w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Planning our activities at DUCE in March 2024<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our main activity for the academic year 2024\u20132025 focused on training teacher educators from the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Turku, the University of Namibia, and the Dar es Salaam University College of Education. We conducted four workshops, comprising a total of 12 sessions. These workshops served as dynamic spaces for dialogue and learning, led by key experts involved in the project. The workshop themes included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conceptualizing Education for Sustainable Development&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research-Based Orientation Towards Teacher Education&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experiential Learning in Education for Sustainable Development: Inquiry-Based and Collaborative Learning&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crafts, Craft Education, and Sustainability&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainability in Food and Nutrition Systems&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital Learning and Sustainable Teacher Education&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social Sustainability and Agency&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perspectives on Assessment&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Partnerships with Local NGOs&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"603\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-1024x603.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-674\" style=\"width:605px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-1024x603.png 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-300x177.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image-768x452.png 768w, https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/fute\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/213\/2025\/07\/image.png 1413w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key expert Teija Koskela from UTU leading the workshop 4<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our project thrives on the strength of its working groups. These groups are intentionally diverse, ensuring representation across gender, nationality, and professional backgrounds. Every member of the FUTE team has played an equal role in shaping the project by organizing workshops, developing learning materials, and embedding both local and global perspectives into our sustainability education efforts. Throughout the year, we have remained mindful of cross-cutting issues such as equity, inclusion, and environmental sustainability. The year has been productive, but also busy. The role of the project coordinators has been essential for our success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comments from the participants:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What did you learn?<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2019\u2019I also learn how to structure and align my assessment activities to sustainability.\u2019\u2019&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2019\u2019I learnt much about the philosophy of sustainable development and the integration thereof in education.\u2019\u2019&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2019\u2019I learn ESD competencies\/skills such as critical thinking, collaborative, problem solving etc.\u2019\u2019&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What did you see as the best parts of the workshops?<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2019\u2019Sharing of experiences from different countries.\u2019\u2019&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2019\u2019It was so good to learn the use of different gadgets\/tools for teaching.\u2019\u2019&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2019\u2019It was very interesting because it forces an educator to be innovative and link your subject content to the real life.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We also received good feedback from the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI).
