{"id":955,"date":"2026-02-06T08:29:03","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T06:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/disturbances-and-biogeochemistry\/?page_id=955"},"modified":"2026-02-06T08:29:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T06:29:04","slug":"fires-for-the-future","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uef.fi\/disturbances-and-biogeochemistry\/fires-for-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Fires for the Future"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fires for the Future: Soil Carbon Dynamics and Ecosystem Service Trade-offs in Boreal Forest Restoration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fires for the Future<\/strong> is a research project (Funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, 2026-2029) examining how prescribed burning can be used as a forest restoration tool in boreal ecosystems, with a particular focus on <strong>soil carbon dynamics, greenhouse gas fluxes, and ecosystem service trade-offs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prescribed fire is increasingly used in Finland to restore biodiversity and natural disturbance regimes, yet its effects on soil carbon sequestration, methane and carbon dioxide exchange, water quality, and other ecosystem services remain insufficiently quantified.
